Unions were one good for safety and to get better working conditions back in the early 20th century. Now a days they are nothing more than a way to extort more money from the government and or corp. Look at the auto and airline industry. Did you know that a union worker makes over $70 dollars and hour in the auto industry.

They are called collective bargaining unions now. They are a plague.

Teacher Unions are the worst. Due to the unions it is virtually impossible to fire even the worst teachers after they attain tenure usually 3 years.

Do you feel that the quality of the work will change with less pay and fewer benefits?

Well I worked in New York as a contractor and there was belief held by me and my buddies that union workers do half the work for double the money. Then folks wonder why America is in decline. I see ruination in Ireland as well where weak willed goverments pandered to special interest Unions to the detriment of the private sector tax payer.

I have no use for unions. In some ways they can be worse than good. If they say strike, you pretty much have no choice.

I saw a friend get locked out of where he worked due to a strike. He had been out on medical when the union called a strike. I was looking for a better job at the time and had been called by this company wanting to know if I was still interested. I turned it down because of my friend. This was at Simplex Wire & Cable Co. in Newington NH years ago.
Would've been damn good money too.

I worked for a company called Harris Graphics. They built printing presses, folders and slitters for the newspaper industry. They were bought by a company out of Heidelberg Germany changing the name to Heidelberg Harris. In the process of going through each facility in the US, they were given a hard time at the Rhode Island plant by the union there. The Germans didn't even bat an eye when they shut the place down and moved everything to NH and Mexico. During a meeting with employees, they told us that if we ever started up a union, they would shut the place down even though it was the North American corporate office.

Have never been part of a union and have no plans on getting into one

Not at all. In some instances non union work is of better quality. The incentive for that is the fact that if an employee doesn't meet the company standards in their workmanship thy can be let go. If it was a union member there may be a clause on the union contract that limit;s the company in the reasons to let a person gp if at all possible.

Right to work States and the laws of such.

Unions could be a force for positive economic growth but they're not. Unions have made it a very attractive option to move a business offshore where the US Unions and labor laws can't cripple your business or industry.

I work for a fortune 500 company with plants all over the United States and the employees have voted out the union in every single one of them. And the employees feel that they are doing much better because of it.

As long as the unions don't have a death grip on an industry, it's all fair and good. Employees should be able to decide whether to go union or not. And companies should decide whether they want to take the necessary steps with employee relations taht would make unionization something employees would NOT want.

Hire good employees. Value them, be fair with them, communicate with them, allow them to feel a sense of inclusion and they'll tell the unions to go piss up a rope.

Back in the mid 70's the Teamsters tried to get the employees of Jack Daniels to unionize. They got their asses handed to them on a limestone platter. rolling on the floor laughing

Most people who want to work and take pride in their skills don't want or need a union.

cheers

Thank you for your feedback on unions.

My daughter is in the middle of this and I worry. I hear about it and she is living it.
She tells me it is an exciting time in this country.

Unions used to be good in their early days but not anymore. A Union is just a collection of people, so high quality people create a good and honest Union and low quality people form a bad and corrupt Union - a Union can only be a good thing if its members have a proper work ethic to begin with.
