Japan's nuclear power plant is at risk for a meltdown as we speak. And if it happens, it could be another Chernobyl style disaster. Already three hydrogen explosions have rocked the plant ( should illustrate the problem with hydrogen as a fuel, too ).
So here we are with no "alternative energy" that actually makes sense aside from nuclear and nuclear power can be extremely dangerous. If we think we're running out of fossil fuels, we better start giving nuclear power some very serious consideration... is it worth the risk? That's the question.

Definitely not, when the Plants are built the Place those were! Wonder what ever happened to Fusion,as opposed to Fission?
I wouldn't worry about it too much. The worlds superpowers have only been detonating every variation of atomic and thermonuclear device since 1945, covering every square inch of the planet in strontium 90 and highly radioactive plutonium particles. whats a little nuclear power company going to produce other than a little radioactivity that's not going to come anywhere near the dangers as the 2000 some odd nuclear and hydrogen bomb tests have overall produced.
they'll get it under control sooner or later, there's plenty of other places on the planet throughout the world the japanese can be evacuated to in the event of a mass contamination of the country.
you figure they would have known better than to play with atomics after all they've been through previously, i guess some people never learn
on a second note..we are not out of oil, natural gas, coal, hydro, wind, solar, hydrogen, etc, etc, etc. I would only worry about the jerks that are controlling the flow of energy because of their insatiable greed
venusenvy: Yabut if the worst happens it wont just effect Japan, Fall-out will hit the Pacific coast, B.C. California, and Mexico will all be affected
I seriously doubt it. and even if it did? it would have that serious of an affect, unlike the 50 megatons of hydrogen explosion the russians detonated that we never died from

Fallout would cause a lot of problems for a lot of people and yes, it could affect people in Mexico and California, for example.... and we won't even know the results for several years to come. It will likely show up in cancer rates spiking off the scale in the next 10 years.

you'll be ok
Really? well your the only one who does then...The authorities in all 3 countries are on alert for a reason...The Pacific coast is in a direct line.( The Pacific fire rim) The Tsunami caused wreckage in California...and caused a 2 ft surge in both B.C. and Mexico...Doesnt sound like much til you put it in terms of nuclear fall-out. A BIG concern here right now, is that the Whales have calfs in the bay...This could be disasterous for them as well.

Thats what concerns me too Garden, The fall-out from Chernoble still continues, the after effects have been horrific
if you're that worried take a 130 milligram tablet of potassium iodine and another one after 24 hours, get a radiation tag and an nbc gas mask, nbc suit ,some decontamination agents, then sit in your bomb shelter for a few months and it will be safe when you come out
seriously i wouldn't trip to far on this. just be aware that there is a potential threat and prey it doesnt get any worse

Im very aware thanks...and unlike you I, along with the rest of the coast dwellers are taking it very seriously. Sadly Mexico doesnt have those resources available to them.
I don't know enough about nuclear power or hydrogen to make an informed statement. All I remember is the movie "The Day After" that we watched in high school and everyone freaked out thinking that we would all die before we hit our thirties.

its not fun living on the west coast these days! Out of the 4 corners of the Pacific plate, 3 disasters have happened, and that leaves us now Take care V

you can buy everything you need online..research everything you might need and to counter the affects and you'll be fine..either get on ebay and order online or go to this link and order
I know this isn't funny, but people in there forgetful lives, forget to properly prepare for "any even" and scramble at the last moment, when they should have been prepared all along.
Mar 14, 2011 11:52 AM CST Nuclear Power... high power - high risk. Is it worth it?

Is it worth not taking the risk? That would be my view. I'd imagine that more people would die if we fail to find an alternative energy source, more people than even a rather dire scenario with nucear power.
