loveprovider: Thanks ali110
I found cold Turkey to be the best way. You just have to bite the bullet and try to occupy yourself with other things. This may not suit everyone, but it's a period of discomfort followed by the satisfaction that you have achieved it. This may not suit everyone but I did it so anyone can.

... *without "expensive" nicotine pads?? What are cigarettes then? Cheap? What would u rather spend your money on? An expensive habit or an expensive solution? It's your choice.
I did hypnosis. I highly recommend it. I was able to quit cold turkey with no cravings. I just didn't think about it anymore. Haven't smoked in 13 years. I saw someone who specializes in stop smoking and weight loss hypnosis. I went to a seminar with 600 people and I wasn't that optimistic it would work, figuring a private session would be better but it totally worked. First half of the seminar was just info. about hypnosis etc. and then the intermission you had your last smokes and threw the rest of the package and your lighters in the garbage and came back and did the hypnosis. Tried many times before to quit but this was the only thing that worked. I think it's easiest.
There's also ear acupuncture but don't really know if it works or not.

Thanks musicfreak,I never had hypnosis before in my life, maybe I should give it a try
i joke, but i have quit and started again many times, i have had a lot of difficulty with it. i would never do that, but it actually crossed my mind once when i was desperate.
patches, gum, etc. did not work for me. the most success i had was chewing tobacco.
i used it for the first month, then weaned myself off of that over a two week period. i made it five months, then got stupid.

Don't do it.... using nicotine pads does not allow you to get the nicotine out of your body. Go cold turkey...after three days and lots of water, the nicotine is out of your system and the rest is mental habit. If you light up during that three day period, you have to start over. I know, I did it. Good luck.

taxidiotis: I go with Jeepers technic the only extra advice i have is to give yourself a week to reduce it as much as possible.Am clean over 5 months now
I would be with jaq on this. Everybody is different. I will have been off cigarettes 3 years this October....or 2 years last October if you prefer.
I didn't use patches or anything. I found that the brain is the best tool.
If I percieved that I was giving up or losing something then I would find it an uphill struggle.
So what I did was to percieve being, 'Nicotine free' and 'Health' as a commodity worth having in my mind the same way a recovering alcoholic percieves sobriety. So I was getting something rather than losing it.It was a goal to be achieved. I took the focus off the cigarettes altogether.
There have had to be changes. I had to start doing a little exercise which has changed and grown in time just to keep the weight down. I even bought a bicycle in time. And I actually lost weight thank God....it's easier to peddle 96kg around than 100 kg! Trust me! Again it makes it worth doing.
That probably sounds horrendous from where you are but it was baby steps believe me.
The initial 2 or 3 weeks, there will be cravings but use anything to distract yourself and keep the notion of Good Health and Well Being in the forefront of your mind.
And if you slip back, don't be afraid to try again. Once you get free of the craving and the negative thinking, do not think that one cigarette is ok with a beer. It's not. You'll be back on 20 a day before you know it. I've done it.
So once you get out, don't go back in. And Easy Does It....but Do It!
