Martia: Can anyone help me? we are going to the JERVIS BAY area in a couple of weeks and taking the Dogs with us.

Don't have Paralysis Ticks in Benalla so what is the best protection I can get for the dogs. Could not bear for anything to happen to them, we are staying for a week.

Have searched google but mainly ads.

So anyone... what works best for your Dogs.

Make sure when you check them, you check between their toes. My friend nearly lost her long haired german sheppard with a tick between her toes. Don't panic too much. You know your dogs well, so you will know if they aren't feeling well.

Have a great holiday

Small doses of garlic keep ticks away but unfotunately garlic and onion are toxic to dogs. I am told 9by a vet) it honeycombes their livers. I feed my Dobermann about a quarter small fingernail doses of garlic when he was too young for Frontline or Gammawash. It didn't seem to affect his health but it kept the fleas and ticks off. He eventually died at 9 after undergoing an operation during which he was anethesised. His lungs never recovered but his liver was healthy.

I am told garlic doesn't have the same toxic effect on cats, but you would have to check with a vet. Garlic is really good for primates.

I used to work out in bush lands, we used a combination 50/50 of Rid and detol in a spray bottle,
Kills ticks on contact harmless to humans and pets! Kills kangaroo ticks as well as those little pepper ticks,

But these days Rid comes in a spray can, ready to use ,
