A consortium of Governments and insurance companies have proposed that North Queensland be permanently evacuated due to the risk to life and property posed by flood and cyclone. What are your thoughts?

Hey uwm I haven't heard this,it does seem unusal to put such a proposal forward. If this was the case they would have to evacuate half the planet.I know the floods and cyclones have been devastating, but doesn't compare to the loss of life and property on our roads each year.

Great Idea, would allow rainforests to regenerate and certainly lower our carbon footprint possibly to the level that we wouldnt require a carbon tax... I fail to understand why structures continually are built on fault lines and areas of high probable danger... a fools paradise

Hi ,
As a thought tho we have the same probs in Christchurch built on a bog & yes they wont to rebuild there in the zone , I was there in the 60 s working there & we went down 35 feet & its all bog the other buildings were coming to meet in the middle so they stoped to shore up the other buildsings to carry on work. building its time to move away from the center & build 15 miles westof ch ch , oh well will see, & yes we are on shaky ground.

Ae, if the gold coast should ever have an earth quake, and, it is built on sand, well those in the hinterland will have shore side views.

Who nows what would happen to Napier, NZ, the earthquake in
1931 raised the ground....... and it is on the ring of fire.dunno
