Can we please get rid of the "polls" option? It's not as if any of us are doing any sociological research or studies, right? Can't we just pose a question as a question without making it a poll? Does anyone ever compile the data and do anything with it? I abhor the polls! Is it just me? Should I ask this in a poll?

But after the opening quote it just becomes like a normal thread BUT with the added bonus of it working like a picture thread. There can be be some very funny picture contributions made to poll topics, so I'm all for them to remain.

It's also a topic opener sometimes and the more of them the better IMO ....wine

i think they are just a silly conversation starter.
just another thread with some bells and whistles at the top,
because they always end up being just like any other thread.

you could have taken a poll to see how many people
would want to get rid of the polls.

hole

how they are used is silly.
once in a while there is a good one.

All I know is that I can't just go back to "All Threads", and I haven't seen any indication that the polls do anything different than what regular threads can do. But, then again, I haven't noticed the added bonus that you reference.

I really like reading the polls at times. It often shows the way the "pollster" is thinking.

The answer the "pollster wants is usually very clear, but, the answer he does not want is seldom if ever on the list.Mind you I have seen some really funny polls on here at times...

Most of the polls are so skewed that the pollster gets the answer he/she wants.

Sometimes though, they can be funny.

(my 2 cents) sigh

I agree with you J, I find that annoying, not being able to click back to "all threads".

The results don't mean anything at all, and I rarely ever participate in the voting. If anything, I pick the most rediculous answer avalable. laugh

They can also be detrimental, in that people might actually think the poll results have some merit, and take them somewhat seriously. Mind you, if people do, they should contact me, I have several bridges for sale in various countries. grin

CS could easily make the possibility of picture being posted to any thread, so one less reason to keep them.

Hiya, H! I just have found polls to be so meaningless, really, considering what a poll is meant for...compilation of data, right?

So, if the poll is about how many women like...well, you name it... then, what happens with the results?

Yep, they're all meaningless, regardless of whether it's Angus Reid or Joe Blow from Lithuania.laugh

All they are is a compilation of popular opinion by those that choose to participate, which could be loosely used as data, but it's more like gossip than anything else.laugh

The results could be used just like stats, which can be manipulated to mean whatever you want. Although the type of polls we have on here could result in some poor guy buyng edible undies for his date, and getting slapped for being an idiot. laugh

Pay no attention to the poll results, they could be bad for your health.uh oh
