Did you watch the debate? What is your take on it?

Honestly I don’t think one did extremely better than the other though Stephen Harper was sort of pack attacked and I believe made it out unharmed. According to statistics Harper was the overall winner in this first debate with 35%, Layton 29%, Ignatieff 21%, Duceppe 2% and the remaining undecided canada

Yes that's the way I saw it as well. It amazes me how politicians can not seem to give a straight answer..

I don't like Harper's stand on leaving the gates wide open to
Canada. Back when that boat load came from Sri-lanka to our
shores though he would never admit it Harper welcomed them
with open arm's & an open wallet. Canada's wallet that never
seems to be open for Canadians. Then shortly after another
boat load was on it's way & I believe it was our Coast Guard
that was sent to stop the boat before it entered Canadian
waters. After the media got hold of that the Tories after
removing the boot from their mouth turn & say we have to
make changes to their policies & be more aware.

How many counties turned away that same boat? I'm not
singling out any country or race but it seems Canada
has the reputation of being soft with our policies.
Yet our country seems to be blamed for a safe haven
to all the terrorist who come to North America.

I think most Canadian's would agree, it's long over due
for Leaders to look after our own back yard before moving
to the front.
In regards to the election & Ignatieff my instincts tell
me that's another story.
P.S. These comments are mine alone. They are in no way meant
to insult anyone or their beliefs. Also not meant to stir
the pot or lead to arguments. We have enough of all that
craziness already.

Hmmm..okay..I do understand what you are saying..But this country was built by immigrants was it not? So how can we close our doors? I am not trying to be nasty just asking...We have also come through the world wide recession better than any other nation. I think what got me in this debate was all the name calling and finger pointing they did..these are supposed to be grown men and yet to me it was like a bunch of little kids..sticking out their tongues and saying my dads better than yours.

There should be a sniper or two in the crowd at political debates. Not neccessaritly to shoot anyone, but to keep them worried of the possibility, every time they lie. grin

Maybe that's a bad idea, they'd all be dead within 15 minutes.laugh

Hi sincity, you make a good point regarding our forefathers
(for lack of a better word)immigration to Canada.I think the
difference is that back then there wasn't the population
growth that there is now. A ship of immigrants back then
had much less impact when compared to now. I think the
difference is when we compare the flow of immigrants that
regularly come through our borders puts more than enough
strain on the system.

Now add to that the boat's of refuges we allow, the same
ones other countries turn away. In my opinion somethings
gonna give.
Oh & the debate,I use that term loosely, looked more like
4 preschooler's in a sand box with only one pail & shovel.
As a born & raised Canadian I was embarrassed to think that
these clown's are in charge. No matter which party it is
they all have their paws in the jar. They just don't get
caught as often as in the States. Normally I keep my views
to myself & don't choose sides, thinking ones no different
than the other. That's not to say I don't vote I know it's
my civic duty.
Just my observations
No insult's intended. handshake

These debates will probably not change anything. We will end up with another minority government and will never get anything done.
