Here are some ideas when you can pay it forward:

When at the drive through at McDonald's pay for the customer behind you when you pay your bill.

Put flowers on someone's desk.

Bake cookies for someone.

Free movie ticket.

Take someone to lunch.

Pay for someone's dessert or appetizer at a resturant without them knowing.

Mow someone's lawn.

Babysit for free.

Pay someones train fare

And the most important one of all, remember your veterans and their family.

Any other ideas?

I dont agree on it being a organized hallmark occasion. I try and pay it forward often in life, because Im moved to do so. I resent being told to do so. wine

Humility is a wonderful virtue but whats the point in being charitable if no one knows about it, huh?

Good grief, I volunteer at this shelter and we would get the folks that wanted to help the needy at Christmas but only if they could go to the home and give the children the present themselves....and take pictures....I would explain to the contributor, confidentiality, how we verified the actual need and then move on to mostly these were small children so the parents would take the gifts and put them out as though Santa had brought them as he had in previous years....U would be surprised to find out how many folks walked out without contributing once they thought no one would know they actually contributed and all they would have as proof that they donated was a receipt for their taxes....SHAME SHAMEwave

Sorry but most of the things on that list are extras. not things that people really need. When I had my own business I worked on a lot of computers for free or highly reduced charges for people that could not afford to hire anyone to fix their computer at normal rates. I sold my last Vic for much less than I wanted for it because the guy needed a car and didn't really have enough to get one and register it unless someone was kind to him.

It's how I was raised and it has always come back to me. A customer in Colorado gave us her old car when ours was dying. L landlord wrote off $400 rent for $75 worth of computer work. We found groceries in our car when money was tight one time.

Paying it forward works but part of it is attitude. My dad says you have to do for others because it is the right thing to do. Not for some future payback or other reward. It's hard sometimes when you make a sacrifice to help someone else but it is the right thing to do.

The was a line from a Jack London story, something like: "a bone to a hungry dog is not charity. sharing a bone with a dog when you are both starving is charity".

I always thought the idea of being charitable was to just keep quietly behind the scenes and help as and when you can. At least that's the way i prefer it, when i help no one knows but me.
