scanz: What do you like about where you live?.Or are you there because of work/relationship or just grew up there?
I've lived in 40 locations up and down the East Coast between the Sunshine Coast and here on the Bass Coast and I'm in heaven here. It's quiet, but naturally beautiful with rolling green hills, rugged coastlines and a great lay back country atmosphere but still only 1hr from Melb's outskirts.

I love Western Australia & Perth cause it is a little bit country & a little bit city great place to raise kids, stunning beaches. friendly and clean. Just an overall laid back lifestyle. I came here from Eastern States 30 years ago & just love it
Miles and miles of mountain tracks and roads, littered with old gold mining relics, clear mountain streams, the wild life, constant changing weather pattens, wonderful views, wide open spaces and outlooks, quite country roads, very few nutters around here, friendly honest country folks.

Sounds beautifull....you are very lucky to live in such a place.

I am on the Melbourne metropolitan fringe and it is less than an hour to Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat so I have the best of city, country, surf and turf at my fingertips. With a population of around 20,000 people, Bacchus Marsh has everything I need, there are schools, a hospital, most shops you need. It is not too big but not too small, unless you want to hide. Bacchus Marsh makes the news in Victoria a bit for people getting lost in the Lerderderg Gorge where they go hiking and car accidents through the notorious Anthony's cutting which is currently having a bypass constructed.
In saying that though, my heart is in Queensland. I really miss living in Cairns especially after just visiting Darwin.

You can stick the tropics up North, great to visit and great to leave too. Someone died on the local rds in Bacchus last night. It's much nicer in the marsh now that the dams out that way are full and the market gardens and orchards are back in production again.

Sounds like you have seen more of it than I have lately.
Faithe: Pity you lost the calf but at least the cow took the orphaned calf. I have a friend who uses hair spray on the the cow and calf. Another friend who had Black Angus had one cow calf who didnt want it. It took several days of putting her in the race and the both of us making sure she didnt kick the calf till she finally accepted it...but she would only let it feed from behind and would crap on the poor little thing every time it fed. She did that all the way thru till it was weaned... The next calf she had she wanted...mother nature is strange sometimes.
spotted the cow licking soya off the calf, though had to push the calf onto cow this morning, as its probably never suckled cow before, thinks comes out of a bucket for past couple months, i've pretty much stayed away from it as the calf come over to me and tells me what she thinks, or whatever is going on in its head. yesterday the poor cow was sitting with half rotten calf right in front her face as it had been rotting away inside her, anyway she now prefers soya source...hehe

Its far better that she likes soya sauce better now. They are so protective of a dead calf you have to force them to leave them usually. At least from my expierence the Angus are like that.
Just watch out tho now that she has the taste for soya sauce she will chinese takeaway next...
I'm leaving it to farmer john now because when i go there the runs over, ah but its good to see its getting a drink, will keep them together in small area for next few days... hope ur days gone ok faithe
