you put the dead calfs skin on the orphaned calf 'til it is accepted then she thinks it is her own, you can do the same thing with lambs.

Wow - I wish I was over there motorcycle pointing

but, alas I am in Canberra - the politician's world of public servants and clean city living - you know low pollution low crime, smart people, healthy living, expensive local government, and more than 50 per cent non-public service jobs! Yep, not all of us work for the government you know! uh oh

A mix of city and country. Quiet, yet not totally. I live on the fringe too cos again it is all I could afford, more country than not - the local cows make quite a noise at times.

The snow and beach are only 2 hours away either way. Sydney is 2.5hrs, and the real country even closer.

But one day I want to retire to somewhere on the coast, near and beach with no frosts! heart wings

for now I am in the city suburbia, for work.

I look up at Mt Dandenong with the sunrise rising behind it, at night the lights of Skyhigh Restaurant shine brightly.

There is a walking track not far away where if you get in the right place you can almost imagine you are in the wide open spaces, so pretty.

And of course, there is 24 hr shopping nearby, major shopping centres a short distance away, on weekends a range of different markets to visit, and also of course not so far from central Melbourne with its attractions.

but I still miss the loud silence of the country, and wide open spaces and quieter roads, one day maybe.

ah the loud silence I mean is walking along a road, or through a paddock, and other than the birds chirping and cows lowing or sheep baaing, you cannot hear mechanised sound.

OR if you do you can hear a car leaving the town 8 kms away across the paddocks.

It is actually quiet where I live, but there is always that slight noise activity in the distance, I miss that loud silence.

and.. to think when I lived in the country I used to laugh at the city people saying exactly the same line! Alright.. I understand now

No where is perfectly silent - there is always background noise which after a while - we dont hear.

I live in Alaska at the moment, reason why I joined the forums was because I will be staying in Oz my next winter, your summer that is. I would really want a place in the country, just a livable shack, shop, garage or apartment with a kitchen.

I cannot stand any outside noise, I built my "man cave" with no less than 10" of insulation, thats what, 257 mm? Nearest town is 11 miles away, nearest train tracks about a mile, almost daily I have several Air Force large cargo aircraft either the C130 or occasionally the larger but actually quieter C17 passes overhead for its approach to the base some 20 miles away like clockwork every evening around 8pm.

Its pretty wooded with lots of small hills where I live, the worst noise that I ever had was my neighbor with his race car and that was years ago, actually my neighbors hated me a long time ago when I had a back yard shooting range on my 8 acres. I have an intense love/hate relationship with Alaska that has pushed me into leaving while winter takes hold, I cannot handle the 6 months of sub zero temps any more. Otherwise the summers are great if the rain is minimal.
