Hi to all!wave
Nice to meet everyone, I've been reading the forums for a week so I feel like I've met some of you already!

So here is the question: I have read a lot of profiles, and so many people call themselves "down to earth". What does it really mean? Not trying to insult people here, I really don't know. Is it about clothes? Money? Friendliness level? Hobbies? Gardening? dunno
What do you think?

Interesting question and Im not sure myself what it means but here is my version.

Down to earth to me means, non-judgmental,easy going, not a snob, more willing to accept people for who they are.

thumbs up yes down to earth as in being opposite to having your head in the clouds. Being down to earth means you are a realist and don't live in fairy land with unrealistic expectations.

And welcome to the forums Ireadalot hug

It is an adjective used to describe a person who is very humble in their interaction with people. This usage is used to describe persons who do not show their superiority ( it can be money, power, position etc) when they deal with others.

I think it means that the person is a realist, isnt prone to flights of fancy, says it like they see it.

Thanks for the welcome!
It's interesting, a few different takes on the idea there. It is still a bit odd to me, because no one ever writes "I'm a prejudiced snob who expects to be treated like royalty!" and in fact I reckon it is rare to meet people like that. I find most people are happy to meet new friends and pretty accepting, (except if someone is really dirty and smells like they never wash- we all judge a bit then don't we!) and loads of people are more shy than I think.
However, it could be different in the big cities, Lonnie is pretty laid back.wine

to me down to earth means that your feet are firmly on the ground, generally a realist, in contact with themselves and their surroundings.
That is of course if the person is being truthful and not just saying another attractive description.

And yep Lonnie is laid back, lovely place, welcome to the forumsgrin

someone who gets over lifes downs and hiccups without the highly strung nervous energy atatched to these traumas. A down to earth person can live with these events calmly and handle them in a way that allows others around them to feel relaxed and secure knowing that it isn't the end of the world if you don't get your Mon. morn pedicure

jem1964: and the ones who say they are honest then lie about their age... then get defensive when you pick them up on it.

so many say they are honest, but cant even be honest with themselves, let alone someone else

Oh boy have I got in trouble in the past for saying what I think.

You are dead right! to get through life stress free you have to tell fibs.So many times I have been asked what do I honestly think! so I tell the truthdoh BAD MOVE but they asked dunno
