lint874: Have you, by any chance been reading my compatibility quiz?
Never mind what's happened in the past.

What about the future? What happens to the conscious you after you die?

Do you just cease to exist? In that case what's it like for for your conscious self to no longer exist? For all your memories to die and evaporate?

If you go onto live forever in Heaven or Hell or somewhere else, how can that be possible? Nothing lasts forever. With the current rate of population growth and enough time, where will they put all these souls? I don't want to die. But die I must. I hate thinking about this. It's too mind boggling and depressing. So most of the time I just carry on with my inconsequential existance, focusing on trivialities...

Reading your compatibility quizzzzzzzz?

hmmm

Have you read mine?
(but, I do not think I have one)

About the future, that is totally different when taken to a personal level, because we make our future in a way.

it's an interesting question - logic states that it's impossible for something to come from nothing, but the fact the universe exists shows that it can. the big bang theory isn't really concerned with the bang itself but with what happened once the bang happened - if it happened at all. the theory is relatively new - first suggested in the 1920s and is supported by 1, background radiation detected in 1965, and 2, the expanding universe - if you take this expansion back far enough, it's suggested that you'd find the position of the bang ... however the universe isn't only expanding but also accelerating in that expansion - in an explosion, matter is expelled and slowly comes to rest - that's not what's going on. acceleration needs energy and if the energy was created by a bang there would be no extra energy to fuel such an increase in motion. where the needed energy is coming from is completely unknown.

matter is finely balanced with the exact number of positive and negative particles - if there was an imbalance of just one of these over the other anywhere on this planet, the world would be blown to pieces - that's some energy - and it's from such energy that scientists believe the bang was sparked. however, time began with the bang, t=0, about 13.7 billion years ago, which means that before the bang there was no time nor any dimension (the bang hadn't happened yet) in which anything could exist. so the answer to what there was before the bang has to be nothing - and within 3 minutes after the bang, a universe so vast that it's impossible to imagine.

I got this info from bill bryson's - 'a short history of nearly everything' .. a very interesting read ...

It is interesting and non-sense to question, what was before the Big Bang. Non.sense for the one who are not in Cosmic Sciences like me but interesting to me.

The Bang, the universe expanding, the cooling, the higher entrophy, etc..all of them effects but what are the causes beyond the Big Bang?

Then you can see that some people believe in God beyond science and then some people believe in the Big Bang (or science) without really a full proof of what had originated the Big Bang and what was before it.

Thanks Charlie for the brief and good to see you, again.

I think such questions are interesting myself, but I didnt realise you were in cosmic science. Are you trying to make some point in asking the question?

Both the existence of a god or gods and a big bang or such out of nothing seem equally unlikely to me - I suspect people have made gods in their own likeness in order to explain things they don't understand though - What do you think?

I am not into cosmic science per se I have read some and always follow what is going on with the most recent events about the discoveries about the cosmos.

There is not point in asking the question “What was before the Big Bang?” It was just a theme to have a conversation and see what people think and know. I am not into wanting to change anyone opinion’s, belief’s,……..I do not need it.

To believe in a God or any divinity, it takes faith and humbleness to accept that there is a bigger force, a bigger energy...........in a way that can give peace of mind to people.

Religion is another matter.

On the other side, the Big Bang is a good hypothesis (is it?) and scientist are doing their job to find the answers about how this universe was created (are there other Universes?....), still so much to find and discover that it seems endless to me, infinite.

Peace of mind is a state in which there is the absence of: stress, anxiety, ....it is the inner serenity.

All I know is that I'm made of Stardust, which was supposedly created, through Stars forming, after the supposed big bang. I could have existed before the big bang, but I don't know in what form I would have existed, so I'm happy just being Stardust, for the timebeing; and until such time the scientists tell us otherwise. Thinking about it, I'd love to have been a non-entity before the big bang ........ no baggage, etc etc etc applause
