Out of the blue a young foreign guy knocked on my door today and asked if I was using the latest power saving light bulbs, I said some.
He showed me his credentials and proceeded to go through the house taking all my light bulbs out power saving or not...then putting in all these new ones in which I had traipse behind him to pass up to him from this box.

Not one bulb escaped him.... even trotted over to the stables and changed them over, by then I had just worked out what was going on and managed to grab 3 of my smaller bulbs back to reinstall in my bedside lamps which now had these great squiggly things protruding out of the top.
I am now sure he gets paid by the government on how many bulbs he replaces. very mad

In the bedrooms and study he had to find smaller bulbs to put in as the others would not fit ....but NOW here we are with very dim lights everywhere and cant see anything in the study or bedrooms so bad is the light. very mad very mad very mad very mad very mad

So now I am going to have to get some new 100watt bulbs.
It was free but I was not even asked!!! it was just done.

I happen to like light and bright NOT dim and grim.

Go the other way to the greenie BS and get some 250watt Halogen lights, they're like daylight.
Otherwise do what they do and bring the solar path lights inside once they're charged, lol laugh

they are pushing these new light bulbs on us,
the old ones have been banned,
supposed to save money, but as you say they are not as bright as the old ones,
interesting thing is the new ones are so toxic that you are not supposed to throw them in your garbage bin
reminds me of the push to use the green bags ( i do )
but they are worse then plastic
never ever break down, guess one day they will

it may have also been a company using changing the lights globes to claim the RECS for the energy savings. They gain 5 years RECS payment for changing a few globes.
I know that was the scheme that was around a couple of years ago.

There are also LED lights available now, expensive to buy but supposedly last for years. Just as bright as halogens but use a lot less power.

No I havent got any yet, I am currently using the fluros and they suit most of my needs, but they arent as bright as the incandescent either

I'm a little dim I must admit on this subject I'm not very bright. But if I'm changing a 6o watt incandescent over to a long life, I don't get the recommended 10watt globe as they are very dim, I just get the one that's meant to throw out 100 watts - 20 watt and it seems to do the trick.

I hate those green bags as the stitching always comes apart and they tear easily. I knew I should have bought a few thousand biodegradable plastic bags before they go and enforce a greenie tax on each bag I buy.

a side effect for some of the fluros too is that they emit UV light if they are not covered by a filtering plastic or glass cover.

If you are UV sensitive it can cause a reaction.

This reaction works best when partnered in bed together.

I'm just thinking if the epilepsy was to be ignited, you could be shaken but not stirred.

epilepsy might be one, but UV sensitivity can trigger any thing from rashes to much more in very sensitive people, can actually make them quite sick.
The sensitivity can be from medications or from different conditions
