I don't agree. I don't think couples who initially meet online face the stigma they might have a few years ago. It's just too common nowadays. One fella I work with originally met his wife in some chat room. Even my own Dad, who's 80 now, didn't bat an eyelid when I told him I'd met my girlfriend on CS. His own special ladyfriend too told me about several other happy couples she knew who had originally met online.
And I do think it would be unwise to go about putting out some sort of "cover story." Wouldn't that just be, lying?
Granted it's more widely accepted these days....there's still an underlying stigma attached to people who go online to meet mates. For one, it says you're unable or unwilling to meet people face to face, it implies for SOME reason you're unwilling to go throught the socially accepted and conventional norms of meeting a mate via the good old "i see you, i talk to you, i like you and get you to like me" method..
With the exception of the young stud who posted this....every one else i've met from this site had either been emotionally unstable, still hung up on their ex, way older than their pic, singing songs of "i'm a sad loser but please like me anyhow" and being a down right stalker after one date....so there is stigma but with just reason. BUT...every once in a while u reel in a good catch ;-)...and we're still trying to come up w/ a good cover story

When I've been introduced to the families, and friends of women I met online... there is usually at least one person whispering horror stories of mass murdering cannibals in her ear.
My friends have always been polite to the women who I've met online... but, I still get the stereo-typical warnings from them, about women you can meet on dating sites.
I'm not the kind of person who would use a cover story; but, I do see where a cover story could keep a new relationship from being affected by the judgments of family members, friends... when your mate is in circle of people they don't know.
Also... online dating has different levels of acceptance in different places... island communities tend to be different from mainland communities.
The OP is from Trinidad, their culture is not like most places on earth.

phew at least there are people who found loved ones here good luck to you to
I met my guy on this site almost 4 yrs ago. Nothing phony about him. Great guy. Ya don't need a cover story to meet their friends or relatives. Be true and good to each other and the rest takes care of itself.
