I tire of this part of the world which is too often frozen. It is my understanding that the South Pacific would be more to my liking. Tahiti seems real expensive to someone like myself who only desires to lounge in a hammock collecting driftwood to sell to tourists,....any suggestions? I hear the Cook Islands are nice,...maybe the Solomon Islands,...any ideas?

I'm not sure about the South Pacific but here's something I read recently.

One of “The Best Places” To Live And Retire - Ecuador

CNN has cited a study by International Living, and surprise - Ecuador is considered as the second top choice as best country in the world for retirement but I say, why wait that long before going there?

Ecuador has long since been awakened from its incognito status and being off the global scene. Yearly, more and more people are discovering Ecuador's "hidden" and exhilarating diversity in its landscapes, biology, people and culture. Its impressive natural diversity is due to two circumstances – it's "middle of the world" location which gives it that greater diversity of vegetation and second, its biological diversity is enhanced by the range of altitudes given off by the Andes mountain landscapes. Its cultural diversity on the other hand, stemmed principally from its many colourful indigenous tribes. Amerindians are still an integral part of Ecuador's authenticity and political landscape.

Aside from all these natural beauty, this country can also offer vacationers, tourist and retirees more reasons to consider staying and making this beautiful country as their home. Think about its near perfect climate, the low cost of living and the peaceful nature of its politics and you have a world class destination for any budget. In this small country, all regions can be visited for a short time, giving rise to the saying that in Ecuador "you can see the sun rise over the Amazon, have lunch in the Andes and finish the day by watching the sun set over the Pacific."

Immigrants to Ecuador can also avail of the big discounts in terms of tax payments, utility bills offered by the state.

Beautiful homes can be owned by prospective settlers at a fraction of the cost compared to countries up north. You can have your dream life of having incredible homes, maids, gardeners, cooks and even drivers. Ecuadorians are sweet people providing sweet life for those who decide to make this lovely place their homes. Native markets can provide you with the freshest variety of food and vegetables. Nothing plastic wrapped in here with prices that makes you think you're buying them for free!

Aside from those, Ecuador also offers progressive and effective health services. Medical tourism is highly advocated by the government proving that even developing countries can provide top-class medical services without burning a hole in your pockets.

Even with a tight budget, like UD$250 per month, one can already cover your expenses for the entire month. People who have grown bored and would want to visit other countries can avail of less costly airfares that some airlines are offering.

Retirees, or people 65 years old and above can take advantage of a 50 percent price slash by several airlines.

I have never lived condo,..but have visted those who do,..and I keep forgetting that there are associated fees involved for not having to shovel snow or cut grass,...or having to try and figure out just in the hell did a person get that water heater in the house the first time after it fails. So? What should I buy into? (Note - do not tell me Scottish castles - way too drafty,..or anything beyond a normal dudes ability to buy,...)

Then again,...hang in there,...in a MAXIMUM of 124.36 months I am going to make up my mind as to where (and hopefully sooner!) and should it be a sturdy little shack down in the South Pacific, you are more than welcome to come along for the journey and get as much sand as you wish between your toes! Sorry though, there's probably only going to be two palm trees and one hammock,...guess we'll have to share!wink

(What's that Chuckles? Okay,...yes,...I guess she could go lounge up in the sturdy shack,....but,...sheesh,...you stupid Grizzly,..and hey, wait a minute,...just what makes you think I'll be able to get you aboard a flight to the South Pacific? Huh? Remember the last flight on WestJet? I told you to pretend you were Chewbaca,....a wookie from Star Wars,...but oh no,...you couldn't handle that,...could you? Banned for five years! That to go! Sheesh,....stupid grizzly!)

Honestly I’ve never been there but I’ve been hearing a lot of good about Ecuador and was thinking of visiting one day.
I’d also love that life by the beach where you can just relax and not have to worry about anything. I might be going to Australia in a few weeks and once there I plan on informing myself and surely visiting some of those Islands in the South Pacific, if I hear or see something interesting I’ll let you know.

Yes, Chuckles can grow on a person! There a few moments during the "house-training" phase that were less than lovable though!

(What's that Chuckles? Yes, she was talking about you. Yes, she said you sound so cute - no, no no,...its an expression,...she didn't mean how you sound is cute! Quit roaring! Sheesh,...stupid grizzly!)

Both myself and Chuckles look forward to the day!
