If you are thinking of moving to France, then getting cracking to learn the lingo.

It is very easy really.

Try the following:

French Fries, French Knickers, French Letter, French Kiss, French Dressing, French Cut, French Windows and for the other Maltesers like me, Frenc Ta' L-Gharb.

Don't even bother to try to understand the last one.cheers

Well… it’s always more productive to gather information closer to the source: if you are interested in a place somewhere in France, it’s better to ask a French forum. Europe and France isn’t the same grin and I never seen Frenchmen or Frenchwomen on this forum. Can be a sign that you indeed have to speak French to communicate with the locals.

Even if a French person understands English, I have found them to be highly reluctant to speak it. Very nice people though. I conducted conversations for hours on a flight from Paris to Kuala Lumper with a French lady sitting next to me. She spoke no English, and I made up the French.laugh

We’ve had a French woman, a researcher, working with a project at our salt mine, she spoke English. But she was of Arab origin. Perhaps it explains.

Are you looking for a cooler weather than Florida?

I thought Florida was a retirees hub?

Not sure what legal requirements are needed for emigration regulations.

Good Luck!thumbs up

What do you think about retiring in Cote D'Azur (French Riviera). Beautiful towns like Nice, Antibes, Grasse, Cannes, St. Rafael, St. Tropez. And not so far from Monaco so it's a plus. Magnificent coastline and nice weather. And don't forget the french cuisine is fantastic. I have been there few times already and everytime I really enjoy my holiday.

Don't generalise, Venere.
I believe there are more French-speaking people that do know English, than English-speaking people who know there are other languages in the world. laugh

BTW, my mother tongue is French hug

Hi gabrielle, no I wasn't generalising as such - basing it on my experiences as I am well travelled, as well as speaking with others...I agree with you, many French people do speak English. Whether they choose to speak it at any point in time, is a different issue.

Bill don't believe the hype....What survivor forgot to mention is all the places she mentioned are full of French...And as for French cooking all they do is give dishes fancy names (nothing else)..

Hello,
A cursory glance at this site, invites you not to venture forth to France, I speak of my experience anf that of my friends, none of us wants to reurn from whence we came.

With a little French, you'll get by, the French here in Brittany are delightfully accomadating, and so friendly.

Do not make the mistake of telling the French just how good your country of birth is, enjoy France, it is an experience not to be lightly dismissed.

Bonne chance.

Ahhh...but you live in Brittany (Celts...) basically like Scot's and Scouser's in that they're the Irish who couldn't swim...
