I don't know anything about rent allowance, but there is something about lone parent allowance where you are only allowed to work 19 hrs per week. I don't know if they just cut your rate, or take you off it completely though

Get on to the SW office and ask them what happens, you could be elligable for FIS payments when working... they'll be very helpful Anne

Annie, if you are lone parents they will cut your lone parents after the first €146 (and so many cent) i'm not too sure of the rate of deduction it depends on what you earn. As for rent allowance, that has all been centralized in the one office now and if you lose it now it will be viewed as a new application when you re-apply so it can take any where up to three months or more to get it back. Also one of the new rules when applying for rent allowance is that you must be able to show that you have been able to pay rent on your own for six months in i think it's the last two years in order to qualify for it. Because this is only a temporary job, which may lead to a permanent placement, your best bet would be to go speak to your community welfare officer about your situation. Depending on your earnings from the job and how long you have been on rent allowance, you might not lose all of it and may still receive a minimal payment which will mean you won't have to re-apply once the job is terminated but just have to notify them of your change in circumstances and they can then re-instate your previous rate of payment on both your rent allowance and your lone parents.
