My sons 6th birthday is a few weeks away and I am trying to plan his party. I cant think of any party games!! Anyone out there have ideas for indoor games that will hold the attention of young children???
Hiya...this seems to be my specialty. My kids had theme parties every year. The neighborhood kids had so much fun that some asked their parents to let me plan their parties.......I'd love to help. What theme is your sons party and how old are the children?
The children that are going to be at the party range in ages from 2 to 12 years....majority of them being about 5,6 and 7 years old. The theme is going to be dinosaurs. I have no clue what to do with these kids to keep them entertained so any ideas will be helpful. Thanks.
I'd love to help you...but my birthday parties were always outdoors.
One fun game I do remember though...is you tie a balloon to each kid's ankle...they have to pop each other's balloons...last one with a balloon wins...that's tons of fun
When my girls were younger..I had a lot of "theme" parties for their birthdays...
But my sister had a dinosaur party for her son...and part of the "theme" was to ask everyone to dress the part...(paleontologists)
You could have "sandbox" digs...or even a cardboard box with sand in it that the children could look for "dinosaur bones" or "dinosaur eggs"...We have party stores here that carry "rocks" that kids can chip away at to find "bones" as well...
Get the older kids to head a "group" of dinosaur hunters, so that they can move from station to station with some semblance of "order"
At one of the parties i had for my girls i needed a "forest"..so i just took loosely bunched up green tissue and stuck it close to the ceiling (for the tree tops) and just hung brown streamers down from that to represent the tree trunks...gave the atmosphere...
another fun one I remember...but the kids may be too young still...
take a chocolate bar, and wrap it with newspaper...10 layers or so.
put out gloves, a hat, and silverware and a dice.
whoever rolls a 6 has to put on gloves and the hat, and has to use the silverware to unwrap/eat the chocolate...the whole time you keep passing the dice, so if the next person gets it...then they put on the gloves etc. I remember this as always being a TON of fun too.
Outdoor parties are so much easier to plan. My older two children both have late spring birthdays so pinatas,a water balloon toss, scavenger hunts work for them. Its a bit more difficult to keep kids inside and occupied without my house being trashed.
Another fun thing might be to tie in the "Ice Age". Freeze small dinasour or bone shaped toys or erasers in the middle of ice cubes. Then give one to each child. Everybody gets to keep the prize inside but the first person to reach the small prize gets another special one.

A mexican Piniata game ... sure you can buy one in the states or make one yourself with a large paperbag... nicely decorated with all kind of colourful ribbons attached with a tacker.. Fill the bag with lots of nice things ... little toys, and lots of sweets of course... and then hang it high up .. on a tree or similar.. then each kid has a turn with bended eyes try hit on the back with a stick, until it breaks open and all the kids grap what they can get.. I seen the kids just love it and each one of the little guests has something to take home too..
