Hi Jimbo...wave

Have fun choosing your new car... When I went off down Pt Road to buy my car, I had more trouble choosing a color, much to my dad's impatience... I dragged my ol dad with me for a looksee.. I ended up with a light green car... it was the color of the day.. back in 2005..

Miss 19 was thinking lime green or black or even pink DAD rolling on the floor laughing Then again she wanted a convertible seeing I was watching a foxtel show on a sabb93 from 2002 being done up for sale last friday nite .
BUT I do get the feeling that top gear presenters get when looking at a 4 seater convertible. That only certain german dcitactors would drive in one rolling on the floor laughing

Depends who you are really buying the car for. Practical is a diesel hich returns much better fuel economy (slightly higher servicing) and is less pollutant in 2nd hand vehicles (fact I learnt just today) than petrol. New petrol technology means new cars are now greener (if that is important to you).

Silver is great because they have to be really dirty before anyone notices how bad they are. Red and black are terrible to hide the dirst - my red peugeot is filthy after a days travel to work but black shows up every speck of dust.

Then again, red cars do go faster, just ask my daughter.

Ask a Panel Beater if you know of any, they repair them and get to know the good from the not so good.

As been mentioned, black is the worst colour out there, it should be banned :-)

Suzuki turnout some well put together cars these days, it depends on what your after really.

Checkout a Suzuki Jimmy, there a small constant 4wd, i was surprised how well they ride.

Im not a Beater or a Painter, i just refit the interiors etc after the car has been repaired.

cheers

If you are looking at the second hand market and want a decent family car at a reasonable price, Magnas (SA built) are the way to go. They have absolutely crap resale value which means you can have a decent Aussie made car at low cost.

I have 1971 petrol and 1995 diesel Land Rovers. 1971 has cheap parts and I service it myself. 1995 diesel has a service every 10,000kms at $1,000 average (typical for diesels) because it has too many widgets and funny tools needed. My 2010 Peugeot is serviced by work (very cheap for me to run).

You buy the best car that you can afford.

If you can afford a new car do so. Otherwise get a second hand.

Get the car that will do the things you want it to do, and wont cost and arm and leg should it ever need repair. Get a car thats popular, as then recon parts are always available.

Careful here, Astra is a popular car but the cost of parts is bloody high. Astra rotars are $400 each to replace while Range Rover Sports are $200. Hyundai i30 are a good cheap car but $1500 for a muffler? NRMA, RACV and others frequently provide typical replacement costs for vehicles. New cars usually don't need replacement parts, 3yo cars may need some, older ones usually need something done. Daughters VW Polo crapped a computer. $1,000 later (cheap fix as not VW dealer) got her going.

Need to carefully look at like expectancy of parts and availability. eg. my Discovery is finding it harder at 16 years while my 1971 Land Rover has many less expensive parts available. Not advocating Land Rovers as such (75% still on the road) but 'whole of life' of the vehicle is a major factor to consider.

I think if you go back are read what I said, it included the phrase that wont cost an arm and a leg to repair

I agree with what you are saying. Its no point buying a car that is prohibitive to repair.

Case in point I have a 97 Rav 4 Wagon.

The older model Ravs have a great allowance for things to go wrong, or be going wrong, and they will just keep motoring along. However the newer model Ravs are known to have a very small tolerance and if everything isnt perfect they just wont go.

For my car 2nd hand parts, transmissions and such are readily available and not too costly.

Would I buy a new model Rav? NO. Would I ever part with my older model Rav... not willingly.

Shell, you scare me. For one who looks so young and so very very blonde, you seem to have your head screwed on. Not just from this page but in so many others.

You are one scary chick. Mel Gibbson would have gone bonkers standing near you.wow

buying a brand new car is fun and all, however they all end up the same after you add some mileage.

wash2u: There is a 300TDi motor at Lara going for $2,300 if you want some details. And modern Land Rovers are expensive to repair, no matter what part it is.

Thanks hon but the motor is fine its the( welsh plugs) that are the problem... cheap to buy! but if they are the ones under the engine very hard to get to.dunno
