Think about it.... since the first kid got killed for his pair of Nikes, tv has been spreading unrealistic expectations like a drug... sell sell sell and some of us all bought the hype.
I don't know if I get your exactly meaning because I can't open your pic.
I heard that our brain stop thinking while watching TV, so if you always watching TV it's not good for your brain. Besides I found that TV drags you, and make you don't want to do anything just sit there and watch. I heard somebody turn on their TV or pc as soon as they get up in the morning. I can never live that kind of life....

Absolute nonsense. People like you should be boiled in oil. And may I suggest Castrol GTX to lubricate those parts that other oils can't reach!
Right, off for a Carlsberg, probably the best lager in the world.

Well that's pretty much what the video showed Amenda... that we've been programmed like sheep for a long time, to buy and want or believe things that haven't been in the least bit good for us.

Oh, gee wiz! This video was a real eye opener! I will have to remember to thenk my lucky stars every day for not being rich and famous - Witchy said sarcastically.

People are more intelligent then what you give them credit for. If you are watching cartoons and commercials, your brain allows you to relax and laugh. When you watch, National Geographic, History International and Discovery channels, they are very much learning channels. In fact, I DVR them so I can go back and watch the program again because I may have missed something interesting/important.
If you believe this video then I guess it's true that you have been programmed to believe that it's true?

And it's not just "sell". Besides the ads, even the programming is calculated to affect us, to shape our opinions and our thought processes. It's not just there to amuse or distract us. It's there to condition us.
I gave away my TV 16 years ago. Never regretted it.
RayfromUSA: On the contrary, People are far more naive and easily deceived than you give them credit for.
How else do you explain all the wars on the other side of the world tha we end up supporting?
How else do you explain that the likes of George Bush and Barak Obama wind up in the White House.
People are incredibly gullible, and TV has a lot to do with it.
Ahhh yes, the recession, stimulus packages, unemployment, the U.S. economy and don't forget that my government is at the brink of crashing is all the fault of tv.
How could I not know that
I'll admit that I did buy a particular shampoo cause the advertisement said it would make my hair bouncy but it didn't work. My hair is still as flat as a pancake....
Gininitaly, Ok heretic, big business is going to get you . We will burn you at the stake for raining on it's holy profitable market share . How dare you tell the great mass of consumers the truth behind advertizing ! We will now have to spend several million dollars to convince them that this movement is all a lie . . . . . . . .

Don't you people get that something happened between "This Old House"(1979).. that was teaching you how to fix up what you already had to live better and "Extreme Home makeover"(2004-) that put poor people into fantastical luxury homes where they probably couldn't even afford to pay the first months power bill?
If population in the USA has a median income of $46,000/year per person, with a couple making maybe $67k, why is there so much of the advertising or programming geared to luxury items or lifestyles? For you to be inspired to buy beyond your means.. or to advertise to those who actually have the money? The reality is that 66% of Americans make $200k and under and 34% under $67k.
We were forced into 2 wars for no good reason and Bush says to go shopping. His cronies profited, but Joe America buried his kid or watched him/her struggle with PTSD or without limbs at 20. Sweet ay? But please no pictures allowed, we wouldn't want them to get depressed and stop them from buying would we?
In those 30 odd yrs from 1979-2011... we have been steadily fed a diet of 'live beyond your means' indoctrination. Because during that same time period, the media conglomerates were eating up all the mom and pop newspapers in the US, the radio stations, the tv stations... the individual voices of a nation... and we've been receiving their formulated profit motivated, fear mongering, divisive, manipulative, fact avoiding propaganda ever since. And welcome to where conscienceless greed has gotten us. If you can't see that now ... then you deserve to keep watching the tv.. it's too late for you hypnotized drones.
Some of you say Americans aren't clueless... but that box is going 24/7 all over the states... it's the background noise to millions, do you really think it doesn't make a difference that subliminally people are absorbing the crap? The wants, the why not mes, the I deserve what they have too.. oh yeah I the I hates? It has created an atmosphere of warped reality, with politicians who lie so often that we can't even imagine what reality could be...30 yrs of garbage in and garbage out. They have separated us and are destroying us.
It's nothing new and it was happening even before this... but never in my 60 yrs have I seen such blatant disregard for throwing even a few crumbs at the 66% of US citizens holding the bag honestly paying their taxes, who can't afford to have a team of tax lawyers funneling their money into the Caymans to avoid them.
Now to add insult to injury, the GOP want to attack and blame the simple civil social services that actually help EVERYBODY in the United States, those remnants from a kinder gentler civil America... teachers, firemen, trash collectors, cops, day care, medicare, social security... that gave most people hope of living decently, thriving and dying with dignity. Oh well... we know the 1% can take care of themselves thanks to most of us being good obedient victims.
But whatever... some wait all day for the 'Wheel of Fortune'.. and some keep watching until the world crashes around their ears and then finally wonder what has happened.
gininitaly: Think about it.... since the first kid got killed for his pair of Nikes, tv has been spreading unrealistic expectations like a drug... sell sell sell and some of us all bought the hype.
I agree with you. That's why TV has often been called the "boop tube". Yes, kids have been killed for what they were wearing, and it's totally stupid to have fads that get people killed. I kind of blame the manufacturers for trends like that, because these incidents wouldn't have happened if those products hadn't been made available and if the promotions of those products had been different.
