I think its more fear of pain that may be involved rather than the death itself.

Cause most are scared of the unknown....I must say I myself am not scared to die ....just the pain that may go along with it ....

All animals (including people) have a self preservation instinct. I would guess that the fear is just a result of that instinct.

Hi Nina...
Recently suffered the loss of my father....He was ill, cancer...He was also 90 years old...He wanted to stay at home so I took care of him for a little over five weeks..I must tell you his passing was calm and he had the most peaceful expression...He was not afraid.....

Yep, I know a few too. Me, I used to worry about dying but really can it be worse than living? I keep thinking about the peace it will bring me. No more worries about anything; just eternal sleep. JMO
