vinny1967: Whether it be domestic voilence or multiple deaths I always ask myself were the victims 'terrorised' ?

Look at it this way Vinny...You are at work and someone comes in your place of business with a shotgun. You don't know if it has any bullets but you assume it does. Whether you know it or not, do you think you would be scared to death just to see a man with a shotgun in his hand? Being scared to that degree I think a person has been terrorized, at least that's how I see it. I think if he walks in the door shooting and the people don't have a chance to think about it, then they probably weren't terrorized.

Now to play devils advocate.....If I saw a snake in front of me, I would be so scared I would probably have a heart attack. Did the snake terrorize me, no it didn't, but seeing it caused me terror.

We could talk all day about our opinions of terrorism but all that matters is that it's bad and it should never be inflicted on someone.

Albertaghost: No indication his violent actions were motivated by the selfless desire to change things for the better in our society. Rather than a noble deed it was said to have been triggered by ....

""Rackauckas said the bloodbath was triggered by Dekraai's desire for revenge against his ex-wife, who he believed was interfering in the raising of their 8-year-old son. ""

Of course, he may have kept his desire to help men the world over secret as many who do good things don't like to broadcast their good acts but, somehow, I believe this is just a case of a vile murderer.

Where did I say it may be selfless, or noble, to help others, you sarcy blighter? laugh

Do you view terrorism as a rational act?

wave

Oh I don't doubt the people in the hair salon were terrorised.

Unfortunately people like to put their own labels on terrorism so it falls into their ideology of christain being good and muslim being bad. Its being happening here for a long time.
To some people unless he is wearing a towel and has dark skin he can't be a terrorist laugh but we both know thats not true.

Some governments have terrorism down to a fine art.

wave I luv it when we agree and I certainly do with what you've said. You also made a point about people with towels on their heads. I'm not sure of the proper term but women who wear the scarf on their head here in America are always stared at. People assume they must be a terrorist because they are from a country that committed terrorism.

If I went to another country I would wear my American clothes which today are a tee shirt with a spagetti stain..uh oh and stretch pants that are much to be desired for. No wonder I can't get a date..doh My point is that cowboys come to New Jersey wearing a cowboy hat and to us they are out of place. If a cowgirl comes to New Jersery wearing a short jeans skirt and cowboy boots you can bet the wimmens will be talking. I don't gossip to others....just to myself.

So how did I go off on a tant of this subject...The point was that people who look different from ourselves shouldn't be judgemental that the person fits into an unfavorable class just because someone else did something bad who also looked like that person. Whew!!

Sorry if I hijacked the thread. I honestly didn't mean to...moping

You said;

""How do you know that this man's motives were not to instill terror among the general population, etc.? In his head it could have been politically motivated, ie. if you don't let dads have full custody of their children we might just shoot the mother of our children and anyone in the way.""

jac379:
Do you view terrorism as a rational act?

In most cases it is rational, well calculated and effective in attaining the goals of those holding the theology behind the acts however that said, it is also evil, inhuman and wrong.

Like I said, "Where did I say it may be selfless, or noble, to help others"?

There's no such thing as true altruism, Al, leave alone in the mind of a person who would shoot his son's mother because access was shared.

That doesn't actually exclude the the possibility that political bandwagon's can be used to rationalize their otherwise irrational acts.

There was an organization in Britain called Father's For Justice that was set up to fight for the rights of fathers who were wrongly and illegally denied access to their children. Unfortunately, all the angry, aggressive, inadequate dads who were denied access for very good reason jumped on this bandwagon, ruining the aims and reputation leading to the organisations closure.

Al: In most cases it is rational, well calculated and effective in attaining the goals of those holding the theology behind the acts however that said, it is also evil, inhuman and wrong.

I question rationality. Is it rational to think that god is on your side, or Allah will reward you with a fair few virgins after you are dead?

Is it rational to enrage a people so much that they are prepared to fight to the death to overpower you?

Is inhumanity rational, or a complete disregard for others with no actual thought about them at all, or one sided hatred?

You stated that his intent may have been to help other fathers. Is that noble and selfless?

So, where on earth do you get the idea this guy had anything of a political nature in mind rather than just being unhinged? I saw no reference to a note, a statement or anything of the sort yet you feel he was motivated thus enough to refer to him as a terrorist rather than a murderer so please explain what the evidence is that the rest of us have missed.

jac379: I question rationality. Is it rational to think that god is on your side, or Allah will reward you with a fair few virgins after you are dead? Is it rational to enrage a people so much that they are prepared to fight to the death to overpower you?

It certainly is to those who were convinced to do the actions. IN their world, what you state above is deemed a reality rather than irrational given their options for a life under the oppressive rule of the regimes who control them. jTo you and I, who have freedoms, lives, options and free speech as well as a liberated life it is unthinkable so we refer to it as 'irrational' from our standpoint.

jac379:

From the standpoint of Qutbists - those who control, plan, aid and abet those actually omitting the acts of terrorism, this is worked into their political plan and excused by teachings of clerics who state that those who are killed were part of the evil that must be eradicated. Particularly those in free countries where the innocent victims are deemed guilty as they voted in their government who is evil.

From the stand point of a Quitbist and their followers, the entire program of terrorism, media manipulation and recruitment in order to create instability in an already weak government so that pressure can be applied at will to promote the change they wish is a very rational and calculated move to realize their strategic goals.

As for or same and terrorist organizations, they view it as a canard and do not make laws or forceful actions based on their own personal views of same but rather how they feel the public may react and view their actions.

Last paragraph should read;

As for inhumanity and emotion in governments and leaders of same and terrorist organizations, they view them as a canard and do not make laws or forceful actions based on their own personal views of same but rather how they feel the public may react and view their actions.

jac379: I couldn't agree with you more, but you know that's not the way everybody is going to see it.

Sadly, its unlikely that anybody's going to have an epiphanic moment, leave alone enough people for love and tolerance to reign supreme.

it was a disgruntles and obviusly insane husband ans indeed sad - to add to the pain by misrepresenting the facts as Ali has, is terrorism indeed
