I've never been to Derry, at least not for real but I was carried there, on the wings of a song Ronan Tynan was my magic carpet over the ocean he carried me across the sea to the emerald hills
A little about this performance. When Ronan Tynan sang this song during a live performance which this recording was made from, about halfway through the song he completely forgot he was standing on a stage in front of 1,000's of people. When the audience erupted in a standing ovation, it was like a shock to him which was plainly visible on his face.
Awesome! I really enjoyed that. ""My Country, 'Tis of Thee", also known as "America", is an American patriotic song, whose lyrics were written by Samuel Francis Smith. The melody is that of the United Kingdom's national anthem, "God Save the Queen", although Smith encountered it by way of a German adaptation. The song served as a de facto national anthem of the United States before the adoption of "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the official anthem."
Alice_Hooper: Lara Fabian Je t'aime( I love you )... Lara is taken back by the audience singing back at her saying on t'aime ( we love you )..
Awesome event. She was visibly moved by her audience joining her in song. Things like this happen once in a lifetime for a performer and then only if they are extremely lucky. Thank you for sharing, I was really moved by that crowd and her.
Ya know, this is turning into a beautiful thread. I am so happy people are bringing their treasured musical memories to the rest of us.
So many, too many to number, of Freddie Mercury's vocal performances in the last five years of his life. From "The Miracle" to "Im Going Slightly Mad" to "Breakthru" to "Headlong". Just one great performance after the other.
This has to be one of my most favorite songs, not so much because I'm an old fart (which I am) but because of Mr Aznavours perfect voice, the way he shades the words, his timing and how he accents certain phrases not to mention his sensual French? accent adds just the right flair to this song. What a shame that for so long Americans were exposed only to the version by Roy Clark good though it was.

U should listen to Luke Kelly sing this song ...a famous singer from an Irish band called the Dubliners sing this song. One of Irelands most loved singers....sadly he passed away many years ago at a young age...but he is still regarded as one of Irelands best trad singers.
