amahlala: Somehow, I don't think foodstamps and fast food in the same sentence makes sense.
Perhaps not, but food stamps, and I don´t really understand the concept to be honest as they are not given here in Spain, can be used on....well food, so whatever people choose to eat then surely they can spend them either in the supermarket or a fast food restaurant. In the same way that people not entitled to them choose to spend their money on breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Here in the US, the foodstamp assistance program was designed to help families in need (or others) and is supposed to be used to purchase healthy food items but it progressed into buying some ready-made foods, such as frozen dinners, sodas, candies, etc.
It's a tough choice to determine what can and cannot be purchased with foodstamps and so many do not have the ability to cook meals on a regular basis or do not know how; sometimes the parents work so much that it is easier to purchase processed foods and feed their families. Unfortunately, there are some that do take advantage of the program and that hurts those families and individuals that really do need the help.

The legend of Cherokee Indian Princess Noccalula dates from antiquity in the regions of northeast Alabama, U.S., where the Cherokee nation once thrived. According to legend, Princess Noccalula was the beautiful daughter of a powerful Cherokee chief and was deeply in love with a brave from her own tribe. Despite her wishes to marry this young warrior, she was promised by her father to a Creek Indian chief who had more bounty to offer for her hand. Her lover was banished from the tribe, and Noccalula was forced to ready herself for the arranged marriage. On the day of the wedding she allowed herself to be arrayed in ceremonial attire and obediently but reluctantly attended the marriage feast. In the midst of the merrymaking, Noccalula quietly slipped away and wandered through the forests of her childhood, coming eventually to the beautiful waterfall near her tribal home. Rather than subject herself to a loveless marriage, she jumped from the precipice near the falls and ended her life on the rocks below.

But if a family is deemed to be entitled to food stamps based on their income, then surely they should be able to spend them as they choose?

And...not only that, but it's our tax money that is helping to support this program.

Just playing devils advocate here.
Good question Jan but unfortunately, the government makes the determination on what the foodstamps can be spent on.
In my opinion, with the state of childhood obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure becoming more rampant, it is not in the best interests of the recipient to spend their foodstamps on fast foods.
What is worse, again in my opinion, is that it is actually cheaper to buy sodas, processed foods and candies than it is to purchase milk and healthy foods. So when faced with trying to make those foodstamps stretch as far as they can, most will buy the sodas, candies and processed foods....

Food stamps (actually, food cards for the most part) here in the states are given out once a month, to be used to supply food for the entire month--for people below a set income level that doesn't match minimum wage.
So, considering what it costs for one meal at Mc D's, for example, those food stamps would be better spent by buying fixable meals that could last a couple days, instead of just a one-shot meal at a fast food restaurant.

Yep...that is true Ali! That is what we call Noccalula Falls. I live about 10 miles from the falls, and part of my heritage is Cherokee Indian. I'm sure you may have seen a picture of the falls from where you found the history insert . That falls is in my home town of Gadsden, which is in the county of Etowah.

It does create a boiling point to see food stamp recipients getting prime cut steaks on "stamps" and there you are getting cut rate hamburger with cash.

Exactly, so why should anyone be up in arms about how food stamps are spent? Those who receive them are not spending them, in the most part, any differently, (given the number of people who frequent fast food restaurants), than those who spend their hard earned money.
I never eat fast food, and I can honestly say I´ve never tasted a fast food anything in McDonalds, Burger King etc, but I have a Burger King quite near to my home and the prices appear to be unbelievably cheap.
Dietary advice and help is clearly needed in parts of the Western world (thankfully Spain is not yet a junk food mecca) but that applies to all, not just those who receive food stamps.
ali110: hey John ,I was searching one of my Friend named Bigjohn10 and he was Searching a Link to Download Encore Pro 2 ,do u know Him ?
Hey Ali...that is freaky that you mention "BigJohn10"! That is the screen name I started out with some 30 years ago!
Proof for you, is a link I made maybe 17 to 20 years ago, and it is still up and running. I still keep it updated from time to time. Here is the link: You'll see "BigJohn10" in the blue box at the top, that is flashing.
YouMeUs: What really burns me, is seeing recipients buying food for someone else who's paying for it, then use that money to buy drugs and booze!
That's one of the reasons why the government started switching from stamps to swipeable cards, that and to make it easier to monitor where and for what the cards are being used for.

Should Food Stamps Be Allowed At Fastfood Restaurants?(Vote Below)
MY OPINION:
I think that by allowing the stamps to be used at fastfood establishments, is taking away from the real purpose of the stamp program.
I've been there, and done that when I was using the stamps, back in the mid 70's and jobs were hard to find then too. What do you think?
