Now that each and every Senate Republican has vowed to block measures that would create jobs, President Obama is not going to wait for them to rebuild the economy and bring financial security back to the middle class.

Today, he announced new rules on federal mortgages to prevent more families from losing their homes to foreclosure. And that's just the beginning -- the President said he would continue to make the changes he can by executive action, while continuing to urge Congress to act on legislation to strengthen the economy and create jobs.

If Congress doesn't act, he will -- because millions of Americans can't just wait for Congress to do their jobs.

We're not just going to continue to wait -- and we'll be keeping up the pressure by making sure they're hearing from folks across the country every day about why they need to act.

Republicans in Congress have repeatedly filibustered the President's ideas to create jobs now -- ideas that until recently were supported by Republicans.

The President's action today also stands in stark contrast to the positions of the Republicans running for president. Mitt Romney even told a newspaper last week that we actually shouldn't act; we should let the housing crisis "run its course" and "hit the bottom" so that "investors" can come in and buy up these homes at cheap prices. He's saying to homeowners that they are on their own, forcing thousands of families to explain to their kids why they have to give up their homes.
Doing nothing while families struggle: that's the opposite of what this president and this campaign stand for. President Obama isn't going to let Congress' inaction stop him from doing what he can right now.

So here's what the President's announcement means:

-- More families whose homes are under water will get help and save money on their monthly mortgage payment through the Home Affordable Refinance Programs.

-- If the value of your mortgage is $100,000 and your house is valued at $75,000, you previously weren't able to refinance to save your home -- forcing many families to pay higher interest rates. As a result of today's announcement, many more responsible homeowners will be able to lower their rates and pay their debts.

-- And this is just one of the incremental changes to come. Next, the President will announce new steps to help young people manage their federal student loan debt while they look for a job and get on their feet. He'll also take action to help small businesses and entrepreneurs, spur the engines of job growth, create new jobs, and assist veterans in finding them.

If Obozo was not totally clueless about business and economics maybe he would submit legislation that would actually HELP the economy and the Reps would vote for it....
90% of what Obozo has pushed for has HURT the economy..including this latest plan to refinance underwater homes( it will simply allow people to lower payments while getting deeper in debt because the 3-4K in closing cost will be added to the amount owed even though the payment goes down a little bit and of course you start the 30 year cycle all over.
Students produce nothing...so while education creates jobs for educators there is nothing produced in return during that time so maybe 5 years down the road added productivity will help but I doubt that Political science degree will actually help produce anything but more BS.

Sorry Ooby, but the president cannot "announce new rules on federal mortgages". Nor can he "continue to make changes by executive action".

Not legally anyway.

Changing laws is the responsibility of Congress, not the President.

The recent trend to govern by presidential directives (yes Bush did it too) is a major step toward dictatorship.

Both parties are now dominated by globalists intent on doing away with the last remaining vestiges of the American Republic.

They are setting up a dictatorship in America.

Like Bush said, It would be a heck of a lot easier if it was a dictatorship. And we're nearly there.

If congress doesn't impeach Obama for attempting to usurp their authority, we are already there.

Look around people.
Mobs in the streets of all major cities, with the blessing of the administration.

The president claiming the right to ignore Congress and rule by decree.

Shills on every forum internet forum praising it all as something good when in fact not one person in a thousand really wants a dictatorship.

The handwriting is on the wall.
The kingdom is not just divided, it has already fallen.
The enemy is already on the throne, boldly proclaiming himself to be above the law.

He is more unpopular than even Bush. And yet, he is assuming the dictatorial powers that Bush set up. Both parties work for the same globalist bankers.

The two parties have both been corrupted and are allies.
We the people, and the constitution are the enemies they seek to crush.

No, not at all. Forcing people who made bad decisions, taking on debt that they could not afford, to give up the homes they now occupy illegally.

Yes, predatory lending is bad. But don't forget that it was Obama style "communisty organizers" who pressured government and local banks to give loans to people who really could not afford them.

And then the hedge funds bought up the loans by the millions and used them as collateral for other schemes, inflating the "value" of such loans far beyond their real worth.

That's how housing bubbles are created. That's how big bankers make billions. Thats how economies crash.

And Romney is absolutely right that the best thing to do is let the real forces of economics replace all the manipulation.

The people who took on debt foolishly deserve to lose their homes.
The banks that offered loans foolishly deserve to lose their charter.
The financiers who knowingly packaged and sold debt based derivatives deserve to lose their freedom.

Don't be deceived. Obama's plan, as always, involves the taxpayers paying for the debt that rightfully belongs to others.
It's just one more collapsing step down that oil-slicked slippery road to communism.

Letting the people suffer for their own mistakes is the only way to straighten out an economic crisis. Bailing them out always means robbing the innocent public to rescue a guilty minority.

Had the government let nature take it's course, Obama, by now, would probably have a soaring economy and a 2nd term. He's doing the same thing as Roosevelt. Making this mess go on forever. thumbs down

On this one Ooby, he should find out why colleges are charging ridiculous fees for something that must be of little value apparently.
Maybe he could crack down on "big" colleges! grin

So, here is the link on what Obama wants to have to happen:

But I am still not sure that it can be brought about, I'm still reading through all 199 pages and so far, I am not finding much that will help me, I seem to qualify in one section and yet am penalized in another section...(unemployed and a full time student)..

Does anyone really think this can work, especially since states must submit a plan to approved in order to get funding?

This video contains a lot of truth and a little BS.

All of the economic facts and predictions in the video are correct.
But the idea that street mobs are going to correct anything is ridiculous.

The supposed "opposition" media sources represented in the video are working for the same globalist forces as the mainstream media.

All are leading people toward a very violent scam revolution.
New World Order vs Old World Order.

When in fact both orders represent the same group of very evil people.

It's a way for them to escape the consequences of their past crimes and pretend to be all clean again. Let the old order die in the fire of a violent holocaust and the new order be reborn in a new fresh "revolution".

I guess you don't know about re-financing a mortgage. When you re-fi you have the choice of a wide variety of duration, from adjustable rates to 10-15-20 30 years. Rates, from 3.5 to 6% right now. Costs, in the form of points etc and you can also either pay the costs up front or fold them into the new loan.

As far as students producing nothing, That is partially true but without a strong education system any country will eventually be left on the dust heap of history. Students are the future and they are the best long term investment a country can make. Unfortunately in America the job of educating our youth has been taken over by private revenue seeking corporations who place profit above the quality of an education they sell, yes SELL! To them it's a product that they sell for whatever the market will bear.

your assessmant is all wrong and full of holes and lies. why should the republicans get along with that idoit in the white house while he spends money like crazy . that bozo thinks that money grows on trees. also he is your president not mine. my president would be transparent, honest, not a coward, fiscal responsible and not a playboy. he spends more time partying and giving money away to companies that fail that the taxpayers work hard and pay for. he works for us not we work for him. he should be impeached for mismanagement, letting our borders go uncheacked, treason, letting our national defence go by the wayside. as far as him being president he is nothing more than a joke and a novelty. he is going to be a one term president. also he has the gall to take all the credit for killing osama bin laden at the expence of our soldiers. now there is going to be a movie based on that incident. it is an insult to the men and woman in the armed forces and just another ploy by the far left to get him reelected. personally he kiss it respectfully

RayfromUSA: What does a guy who never had a private sector job in his life know about creating jobs?

Nothing of course.

Obama's only answer to all issues is:
- raise taxes
- create a huge government bureaucracy
- use whatever money is left after all the cronies who staff the bureaucracy get their big salaries, to do what the private sector would have done better for free

How can tax money create jobs?
The tax money has to come from private enterprise in the first place. So it destroys jobs first, then it passes through the hands of a lot of appointed government fat cats and whatever is left is finally used to finance some useless make-work projects just to pretend it's doing something worthwhile. Meanwhile the young people working for the make-work programs are indoctrinated into the Obama Youth.

Ray...I don`t agree with a lot of what you say,but you are right on target here. The problem in a nutshell is the fact that we have discarded the concept of failure. All these categories of participants need to fail and there is nothing wrong with failure. To prop up falsely is a recipe for further erosion of our stumbling economy.

I am a Christian and my faith influences what I do and think personally.
But I agree with you that religion has no place in political spheres.
When politics and religion mix, both get perverted.
Some things belong to the government (Caesar) and other things belong to God. And it's a mistake to get them mixed up.

That doesn't mean politicians can't have faith.
But as Jesus himself said, they should keep it to themselves to the point that their left hand doesn't even know what their right hand is doing. Not hiding their faith, but just keeping it to themselves and not imposing it on others.

Interesting (but lengthy) read.

Maybe everyone's leaving "community" and state colleges because of the average 7.1% increase in tuition annually. dunno

A separate report to be released Thursday shows that community colleges — long seen as the affordable route to higher education — are increasingly unaffordable for American families. From 1999 to 2009, tuition at public two-year colleges increased 71 percent, while the median family income declined 4.9 percent, adjusted for inflation, according to a study by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.

“We’ve gotten pretty jaded about this issue, with people saying, ‘Look how cheap community colleges are, compared with four-year colleges,’ ” said Patrick M. Callan, president of the center. “But actually, community colleges, which are supposed to be our safety net institutions, were losing ground even before the economic downturn, with huge tuition increases at a time when family income was declining.”

The Education Department data cover a smaller time period, reporting tuition from the academic year that began in the fall of 2009, but calculating increases from 2006 to 2008.

According to the lists, the average 2009-10 tuition at a four-year nonprofit college was $21,324. But the highest-priced institutions were far more costly: Bates College in Maine had the highest tuition last year ($51,300); Wells College, in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, the largest percentage increase in the two years before that (67 percent); and the Art Center College of Design in California the highest net cost for those receiving aid ($29,672).

That's a hefty increase. Especially when wages are going downward. In good times or bad, colleges invariably raise prices.
