well it is needed so that it will make it harder for illegals to live here. they are taking away jobs and stretching the system to far out and it is making our nation go broke supporting them. it is time that we said no to illegals coming in our nation and the benefits should go to those who are living here. in my opinion every state in the nation should have simuler laws in their books.. also they shouldn't get in state tution while regular kids have to pay threw the nose.. the president doesn't care about border security and the democrats want their votes to end the republican party. sooner or later we have to close the borders and deport those illegals back to their own countries. even the legal immigrants that are here would agree with me.

I am so glad Alabama gave this a lot of thought. From my understanding and many news articles. You can do your own googling on it. I hear the farmers cannot give those jobs away and the farmers are talking about not planting for next year. So this is the big picture. Alabama will not only be losing revenue from the farmers but their price of produce will be going up in their area. I asked around here to find out what others would do. And they said produce is easy enough to find. Which means they will be buying produce and veggies from other countries. Most likely our nearest producing neighbor. Oh that is Mexico! Since this was done at picking time Alabama has been sending sos out everywhere to help get these farmers someone to pick this years crop. So John though I do agree with some of what you say I just don't understand why you think they are taking away something it seems no one really wants? And don't you really think that maybe this could have used a little more planning? dunno

The solution is simple. Take over Mexico and add all the Mexican states to the United States. Take down the border. Give the Mexican people our constitution and laws. They all become American citizens overnight. Everybody learn to speak Spanglish. Why fight it, in 20 years that's how it's going to be anyway. We could send in the American military to work with the Federaliies to wipe out the drug cartels.

I wish you were right but do you realize how many people you'd put out of work in mexico given your scenario?
They can't afford to modernize their industry with the Best Available Technologies to control pollutions so the business there would have to close. Heck, imagine how many people in the USA would be below the poverty line too and w/o even considering how many business and industries would close there. wow wow

I think it would probably take 10-20 years for the dust to settle but eventually the 2 cultures would meld together. Part of the problem as I see it is Mexico has been misrun for so long what with corruption and polluting the environment and poor farming practices it would be a big boon to them and we would get a huge hard working labor force. Look at what happened when East and West Germany reunited. Germany today is the strongest, richest country in Europe.

I don't have full knowledge of those laws but can imagine. The problem is palpable in those states since they border each other. I believe as an American I'd probably agree with those laws especially knowing how many of these people feel about us as a people. It's a pity we cannot all live together as one but the reality is all economics. I believe the best way to analyze this whole situation is to learn about their illegal aliens laws and we can see exactly what It is. Money talks and bs walks.

"It’s What They Asked For
Published: October 19, 2011
Alabama’s new anti-immigrant law, the nation’s harshest, went into effect last month (a few provisions have been temporarily blocked in federal court), and it is already reaping a bitter harvest of dislocation and fear. Hispanic homes are emptying, businesses are closing, employers are wondering where their workers have gone. Parents who have not yet figured out where to go are lying low and keeping children home from school.
......
Alabama’s law is the biggest test yet for “attrition through enforcement,” a strategy espoused by Mr. Kobach and others to drive away large numbers of illegal immigrants without the hassle and expense of a police-state roundup.

All you have to do, they say, is make life hard enough and immigrants will leave on their own. In such a scheme, panic and fear are a plus; suffering is the point.......

The problems do not stop there. Farmers are already worrying that with the exodus, crops will go unpicked. Like much of the rest of the country, Alabama needs immigrant labor, because too many native-born citizens lack the skill, the stamina and the willingness to work in the fields — even in a time of steep unemployment.

The new law has also added frustrating layers of paperwork for Alabamans who must now prove legal status when enrolling schoolchildren, signing leases and interacting with government. After the law went into effect, the lines at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Birmingham grew so long that officials had to bring in portable toilets.

Alabama’s reputation has also taken a huge hit just when it is trying to lure international businesses. No matter how officials may try to tempt foreign automakers, say, with low taxes and wages, the state is already infamous as a regional capital of xenophobia.

If Alabama succeeds in driving out all of its estimated 120,000 unauthorized immigrants, restrictionists will surely cheer. They will have only 49 states and 11 million more people to go.

There is another more humane and realistic path in which immigrants could earn the right to stay — if Congress would accept its responsibility and move ahead with serious immigration reform.

America’s history shows that assimilation works better than deportation — for everyone. If first-generation immigrants don’t all learn English, their children and grandchildren invariably do. They may be poor, but their children grow up to be productive citizen taxpayers. Unless, of course, you frighten and oppress them, and forbid them to work, live and go to school.

Other states that are tempted to follow should look at what is happening in Alabama. Nobody is winning there. "

From the NY times

Again, I do not support illegal immigration.

Money is no our problem.
Our problem in Mexico is the government and the corruption that goes with it and the political “use” that they do to it.

For you, to know.

The sum of 3 yr. the budget for the Mexican States is equivalent to the budget of the “Marshal plan” to reconstruct Europe after WWII.

Have you ever been to Mexico?
Have you ever been to a complete modern and automatic farm operation like milk production or tomato production in greenhouses, just to say some examples?

Well, I have and I do, that is my job: Sustainable Rural Development.

I didn't want to name any organization in my previous post but The U.S. EPA is full of regulatory people, not scientific people like it used to be. Their rules and regs have eliminated a lot of companies which could not survive all the rules and regs.
It is widely known that Mexico has a lot of pollution created by various industries there. Our EPA, if allowed to flex its muscles there, would probably harm things there rather than help.

You did not answer my question.

Pollution in Mexico.
Do you have any idea of how many American companies are in Mexico making huge profits and generating pollution?
Along with Mexican and other countries companies.

Shall I send the pollutants to you?
–only the ones from American companies of course-

Btw Can you assure me that there is not hazard wastes from US buried in Mexico’s soil?

For YOUR EPA I have nothing but a great respect for the work they do. Might not be perfect but it is good.

Sorry... No, I've never been to Mexico. I cam close to visiting back in the 70's when I lived in So. California while attending a few schools. I think I was scared by all the gossip that I'd be locked up and the key thrown away if I wasn't beaten to death by your local police if I just farted in the wind while there. Not exaggerating that.

I'm aware of business from the usa that are creating pollution in Mexico. I used to admire the EPA too and had a passion for its work for 33 years in air pollution control. It was a science based organization in the pioneering days when few colleges had any related curriculum for it. It is now full of mostly lawyers and investigators of which many work clandestinely undercover.

EPA today is mostly rules and regs and permits which try and relate to state implementation plans that never work because the us epa keeps raising the national ambient air quality standards. They epa folks are merely perpetuating their own existence because the skies are now blue and our rivers don't catch fire any more. The epa is a power hungry entity that has shut down a lot of good business and driven up the cost to operate for many more.

IMO, the us epa has overstayed its welcome and needs to be downsized to monitor and enforce laws established years ago based on science again.

lifeisadream: Could you elaborate on How that was done?

Here, for starters:

I was going to cut and paste and comment, but I'd be here for days w/commentary. There's a multitude of sites about EPA overstepping it's authority. Basically, what good it does is outweighed by being an agency that penalizes those who can least afford it by adding on costs which everyone pays. (that's the short version of my commentary)

lifeisadream: What are your representatives for?

If those claims are authentic and valid they should go to congress and make the required amendments to the specific Act.

An example:
Farmers
Keep in mind that farmers are at one side and consumers are on the other and there has to be an analysis were both parts win –which is rather not easy- .

In my job we do have to observe the environmental laws and I can tell you that to do the studies to prove that we are not making a negative impact on the enviroment it is very expensive and time consuming.

We are guilty until prove it otherwise.

But if that were not the case, many land developers and farmers would do lots of harm to the ecosystem we have.

Another example:

We do have fish farms and those organisms are to be concealed in a specific place. If some of the “cultivated” fishes get out and make it to a near by river or the sea the damage of genetic contamination to the wild fish population would be devastating.

Most are "sissies" and don't want to come off as being "anti-environment". It's easier to "go along".

(in my opinion)

i am not talking about the farmers. i am talking about the construction jobs and etc. we have a high unemployment rate in this nation especially in california because the illegals have the jobs and the amount of money is being spent on the illegals who send their paycheck back to mexico and they get on welfare. this is happening all over. in order to get this nation back on its feet finacial wise it would be best to cut off all aid to those people and give welfare who really need it.

why not have it set up that when a illegal is caught he or she will face jail time. the laws in mexico is srt up if anyone crosses the border into mexico illegally that person will face stiff jail time in a dracoion manner. we shouldn't trust the mexican government because it is so corrupt just like their military. the mexican military is conspiring with the mexican drug cartels. also i want to add that there have been numberous crossings into our nation by the mexican army. wht in heavens name they are doing in our nation? my guess helping the drug cartels. they are breaking laws when they cross and our government should do something about it. that is why our military should be placed on the border to prevent that and illegals from coming in here

galrads: Interesting, I think we have to give Obama credit, for a change, for not allowing EPA to do their thing with CO2 and not allowing them to again recently raise certain criteria pollutants standards like for ground level ozone.

The EPA has way too much control over our lives. Someone needs to rein them in. A good healthy department budget cut could do the job. (maybe 50%) Then they'd have to work instead of sitting around drumming up ways to make the world just a little safer.) yawn
