Dr Conrad Murray, 58, faces up to four years in prison following his conviction. He had pleaded not guilty. It took the jury of seven men and five women nine hours to reach their unanimous verdict after a six-week trial. They ruled Murray gave the King of Pop a fatal overdose of the dangerous anaesthetic propofol.
Murray had been hired to care for Jackson as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts at the O2 Arena in London. The singer was found dead at his Los Angeles mansion on June 25, 2009, aged 50. A post mortem found he had died from an overdose of propofol - which is normally used as an anaesthetic during surgery - and sedatives.
4 years doesn't seem much though, considering he's been on remand since his arrest?

cynicalorange: Michael Jackson's personal physician has been convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of the star by a jury in Los Angeles.

montecito: It wasn't proven that Michael gave himself the drug.
It was proven that Murray left the the room for 40 minutes where Michael was hooked up to Propofol.
That is why he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
It just seems to always be the same old thing going around in circles...the list of dr's and dead stars is endless...At least this time there will be consquenses and maybe a beginning to the end.

Hopefully there will be an end but I doubt it.
Some celebreties, who work as hard as MJ and Elvis did need an extra push to keep them going. Murray tried to make it look like he cared about Michael but all he cared about was getting $150,000 a month to be Michael's personal physician. This drug is very safe when used in an operating room.
"This drug is very safe when used in an operating room." Operative words here. I think it should never have been used outside of a hospital setting and its disgracful that a Dr. would

Hon, he did it because he needed the $150,000 each month to avoid bankruptcy.
He has quite a few girlfriends, one he was on the phone with when Michael died, he has many children by different women and a wife that is probably going to sue him.
Murray did it for the money.
If Murray had been in the room, when he saw that Michael stopped breathing, all he had to do was stop the Propofol, give MJ mouth to mouth or air some other way, and Michael would have lived. Michael didn't die from his heart stopping. He died because he couldn't breath and THEN his heart stopped.

The guidance from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) reads: "Though the drug is often used for procedures requiring sedation, patients can have extremely variable responses to the drug and some patients can become completely anaesthetised, including losing the ability to breathe."
For someone to administrate such a powerful drug, then leave the patient unattended, is wrong. There should have been a nurse of someone else present with him at ALL times.
After all, it's not like he wasn't paying enough to justify it.
I apologize to CS peeps for getting so riled up about this but like I said, I watched the trial every minute of the day, every day. I didn't miss anything and so I feel very close to the situation. Not because I was a big fan of Michael's but because of the reckless actions this "doctor" took.
He took away the father of three children who loved his dearly.
I don't mean to sound like a no-it-all. I'm just expressing ... and I guess venting....the frustration I felt every day of watching the trial. This was a needless death. It wasn't a death caused by a mistake. It was caused by a doctor who was greedy for the almighty dollar....

Vent away. What happened, should NEVER have happened if he was as caring as he claims to be.
There should have been a medical team, not just the one Dr who came and went as and when he pleased. If drugs of that scale are to be administered, there should be someone in constant watch, and monitors placed to ensure that everything is all OK.
Having read what was actually in his bloodstream, it's shocking the Dr was so 'free and easy' with his drugs.
From Sky News: Apart from propofol and Lorazepam, which is the benzodiazepine referred to in the coroner's report, there were four other drugs found in Jackson's body. They were: Midazolam, a prescription sedative which slows heart rate and breathing; Diazepam or Valium, a well-known drug used to treat anxiety disorders; Lidocaine, a local anaesthetic used to stop the burning sensation caused by propofol; and finally Ephedrine, a drug used to speed up the heart that can often be found in cold remedies.
In the minutes after Jackson stopped breathing, Dr Conrad Murray also gave him the drug Flumazenil, an antidote to reverse the effects of the sedatives he had take
