Jeeepers: I was a smoker for over thirty years. With the support from the people here on CS I was able to stop cold turkey from a thread I posted a few years ago. I haven't put a cigarette in my mouth since my first posting...or shortly after I started the thread.
Thank you CS !!

Back when I was a smoker, I never smoked in anyone's home unless they were smokers. I felt uneasy about it. Smoking stinks !

Now that I don't smoke I can smell how nasty the smoke actually is. While walking my dog, when a car passes by and there is someone in that car smoking, I can smell the smoke for what seems an eternity after they pass by.

Stopping smoking was the best thing I did, other than stop drinking years ago.
yay i am glad and happy for you..i dont want to stop anyone from smoking they have to want to do it for themselves..but a little compromise would be nice..especially not in the bedroom..no matter what time it is..and when lit up i have to get up and come downstairs..i just cannot breathe

When I was a kid my mother had a live-in bf, we called him a "roomer" to give the air of respectability to her. He was a smoker and I can well remember going into the bathroom after he was in there it was like see how long you can hold your breath. I thought about blowing up a balloon before I had to go in there and using the air in it to breath.

Had to have a third of my Right Lung removed ens of last year!
A 9/16th inch malignant growth was discovered about two months before!
Strange thing is that I had stopped smoking in '94!
So smoking isn't always the cause!
Matter of fact my Doctors told me that Cancer could have almost any Causes, especially when you get older!

Set up a lovely sitting area with a heater outside.
Start using it yourself when you want some fresh air and maybe he will follow the lead.

still a smart thing to stop smoking, since Cancer isn't the only Disease it can cause!
Heart-disease and Emphysema are possibly more common to smoking than Cancer!

I smoke, but only about 5 or 6 a day.

At home, I've always smoked outside, as I don't actually like the smell of stale smoke. I therefore, expect anyone else who visits, to do the same.

My home, my rules.

Nonsmokers account for 15% of lung cancer cases, and these cases are often attributed to a combination of genetic factors, radon gas, asbestos, and air pollution including secondhand smoke.

amahlala: I never smoked in my home when I was raising my children, (having quit and resumed smoking several times, quit this past summer and started up again), nor have I ever smoked around my grand-babies.

Smoking in the home is unhealthy not only for the non-smokers but the smoker, animals, plants, etc., it also makes the house smell and walls and furniture become discolored.

I won't smoke around non-smokers.

I get my ladder out and climb up on the roof to smoke. That way no smoke drifts down on the children in the neighborhood. laugh

Could 1 room be dedicated. Then get one of those smoke "eaters" w/an ionizer? It wouldn't totally stop the smoke, but you'd see a reduction.
dunno

I enjoy a cigar occaisionally, and as i live alone, pay the bills,i will smoke it in the shower if i so wished.
However,if i lived with a non smoker, then i would respect the fact they dont smoke, and smoke outside,as i would expect them to respect any wish i had.
I wouldnt be pleased,to put it politely,if i had a visitor who ask me not to smoke in my own house.I would suggest they leave,or stand outside until i had my cigar.
When i visit anyone house, ride in thier car ect,i never ever have a cigar.wine

kissmedeeply: i developed bronchtis whic i never had...and so did my youngest 13..cigs makes him cough alot and stuffed up..not against smokers at all...dont bother me being around them..but in a closed house thats when i get choked up coughing..especially in the bedroom...

hug Doesn't sound good KMD!!

Also smoking in the bedroom is a big NO NO!!! Sleeping in a room full of cigarette smoke is the worst of all.

I'm a smoker but don't smoke in my own or anyone else's bedroom!!! Not even in the morning. My baccy stuff never enters the bedroom!!

Sounds like being in the smoky atmosphere is affecting your health and that of your children. Hope you are able to reach a happy compromise in the energy of love and caring.
