Half measures, stop smoking rarely works.- The person must set his mind to it,and decide smoking isn't for me anymore.-Sometimes the mind to stop smoking is there, but without determination and the will power of the smoker,to stop, though a "click" of any kind can direct the brain of a smoker, to decide "now is the time" to stop.-
kissmedeeply: yes boban my husband as worked for aabout a week then it started getting bad side effects..throat burnt and it tasted like melted rubber..

Consideration you"ll find in the end,but you have to persist delicately with a smoker,as most of the time, are stubborn, and don't want to listenhandshake

ooby_dooby: I have a "married with children" couple of friends. They have 2 beautiful daughters 13 & 16 now. The 16 YO has blossomed into a gorgeous young lady. The 13 YO gets cuter by the day. Both parents smoke, in the house, and when the girls come home from school, they aren't allowed to go out to play in the yard because the mother doesn't want them getting their clothes all dirty so they stay inside til they go to school the next day. The mother also does at least 1 load sometimes 2 loads of laundry everyday. The girls get their clothes laundered after each wearing. To add to this, the mother uses fabric softener in the washing machine as well as dryer sheets in the dryer because she loves the smell.
So. The girls breathe in 2nd hand smoke from 2 chain smokers 7 days a week, plus they are exposed to the fumes given off by fabric softener chemicals 24 hours a day.

I had friends years ago who worked at a place that manufactured fabric softener and dryer sheets in Hackensack NJ, and they told me that most workers don't last very long before they quit for respiratory reasons. They hired mostly HS kids part time for min wage and no benefits. You can smell that place a quarter mile away. I stopped using both items years ago in fact I don't even use a dryer unless it's raining. Give me a good old clothesline any day. Plus it's free!
We now have events prohibiting entry if one is wearing perfume or cologne. Personally, I think it's a bit of a stretch, although I do realize that many people have health issues with scents. But what are we going to do--outlaw mother nature for the dandelions, weeds, and pollen that so many are allergic to? This sort of thing can become a never-ending tale. JMO

We have some organizations in Indiana that do that also. If I recall correctly, someone pushed the idea of banning deodorants as 1 person had an allergy to the smell.

I think a lot of that is "attention seeking" behavior. In a case such as that, I think the "victim" should have to wear a respirator.

RedHeadedTaurus: Hi Kissme I smoke. And I smoke in my house. However, I don't have children in my home. If I did, I wouldn't smoke near/around them.

Here in the U.S., the laws are such now that you can hardly go to any business and smoke. Some places allow the E-cigarettes, which don't contain any actual "smoke", but still do contain chemicals like nicotine. The reason is that there isn't that second-hand smoke element. Not to say of course that the smoker of the e-cigarette still isn't doing themselves harm, what with the chemicals and such.So even though I do smoke, I do respect that non-smokers and children shouldn't be subjected to my second-hand smoke.

I agree and although I am not a pet owner; I don't think pets should be subjected to second hand smoke either.

However, if a person is forced to smoke outside, it's possible the pigeons could get lung cancer. dunno

I am a smoker and smoke in my house, however when my grandson lived here I went outside as I would do if someone with children is visiting.

If it was a situation where I was going to be living with someone who didnt smoke I think it would be a conversation we would have before we moved in together.

I was married to a smoker and I have never smoked and it became a big issue and caused many fights so now I know that I would NEVER go with a smoker. It is too bad cause I do see some very interesting men who smoke but we have to draw the line sometimes don’t we.
Here is an article on ‘Third-Hand Smoke’ which I had not heard about.

kissmedeeply: Now i dont want smokers here giving me a hard time..i am not ditching people who smoke..I am simply just asking a question and wondering if i am being selfish..
If you have a smoker in the house but others do not smoke..is it fair for the non-smokers..(children) to have to breathe this in?
We all know that second hand smoke is the worsed..I think that if their is a smoker in the house.why couldnt they go outside to smoke if they want to continue to smoke..I hear its my house and if i want to smoke then i can smoke..if you dont like you guys go outside.. Is that fair Really? I care about my children and myself..i know what smokeing can do to a woman..i read up on it..give them heart disease..stroke..cervical cancer and so on..that is just from second hand smoke...if i was doing to myself then its my fault..
When i was pregnant at 26 i quit cold turkey so i know what it is to smoke..but i thought of someone else then myself..

Opinions would be greatly appreciated..

I don't smoke.. I hate cigarette odor as it makes me hard to breath.. but I don't hate smokers.
Some of my friends even my very dear one are also smokers.. they just don't smoke in front of me..
I always avoid places where people can smoke..
To me, smoking is just "burning" money and worsening health.
But then people have their own choice.

Great article.......Did you ever hear of the term he/she smells like an ash tray?.....We all know that ash trays are pretty nasty and that would be classed as 3rd hand.........
