"The Immigrant" is a 1975 single written by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody and performed by Sedaka. The single was the second release from his album, Sedaka's Back. "The Immigrant" was dedicated to John Lennon and the immigration problems that he faced. The single peaked at number twenty-two on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent one week at number one on the Easy Listening chart in May 1975.
I always liked this song..of course when I was much younger it played on the radio...lol, but there were some that did not think Sedaka was so cool, I have and always hope to embrace the music I enjoy by my own accord and not by popularity...though there is many popular music much liked too. ;-}
The Lyrics.
Harbours open there doors to the young searching foreigner Come to live in the light of the big L of liberty Plains and open skies bill boards would advertise Was it anything like that when you arrived Dream boats carried the future to the heart of America People were waiting in line for a place by the river
Chorus It was time when strangers were welcome here Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room That people could come from everywhere
Now he arrvies with hopes and his heart set on miracles Come to marry his fortune with a hand full of promises To find they've closed the door they don't want him anymore There isn't anymore to go around Turning away he remembers he once heard a legend That spoke of a mystical magical land called America
It was time when strangers were welcome here Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room That people could come from everywhere
It was time when strangers were welcome here Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room That people could come from everywhere ~^
Lyrics: Do you want to be an angel, Do you want to be a star, Do you want to play some magic on my guitar? Do you want to be a poet, Do you want to be my string? You could be anything. Do you want to be the lover of another Undercover? You could even be the man on the moon.
Do you want to be the player, Do you want to be the string? Let me just tell you something, It just don't mean a thing. You see it really doesn't matter when you're buried in disguise by the dark glass on your eyes, though your flesh has crystalised; Still .... you turn me on.
Do you want to be the pillow where I lay my head, Do you want to be the feathers lying in my bed? Do you want to be a colour cover magazine; create a scene. Every day a little sadder, A little madder, Someone get me a ladder.
Do you want to be the singer, Do you want to be the song? Let me tell you something you just couldn't be more wrong. You see I really have to tell you that it all gets so intense. From my experience It just doesn't seem to make sense, Still .... you turn me on
