Dear Peeps,

It'a a simple/complicated question, one I have not thought about for a while but the question has been running through my mind of late. Why do we fall in love? Is it pheromones?, lust, smell, chemistry, dopamine? Loneliness?

I have been 'stupid-in-love', 'would do anything for the person'love. I have been on the receiving end of 'will-do-anything' love and I have never understood it still.

Why do we fall in love????

And a step further.....why can we go for a long time without being in love.

Not talking about loving...but being in love. sigh sigh

Sometimes I think that it’s chemistry – you do exchange energy with people, and there are people so full of positive energy and so willing to share it, that you just can’t remain unaffected and start to share yours. If your response is wanted then a feeling emerge and it can turn into love. daydream

And sometimes I think it’s just fate… When the feeling is gone, you are left there wondering: this one? Really? And what exactly did I find in him? Indecisive, mercantile, spiteful, and doesn’t wash his hands… Must be a fate, no other explanation.

It is still the most mysterious thing I think. Chemistry can play havoc with our logic. I met someone recently and we had 100+ chemistry....until our first date. He said we're going to have a nice dinner. We met, he ordered a Guinness for himself...and I had the same. He proceeded to finish his, and then helped himself to half of mine!!!!!!! rolling on the floor laughing

I think that brings up a question. Are we supposed to be in love with the same person forever? Perhaps not, perhaps sometimes it expires and through no fault of either person. Maybe love has a 'best before' date on it. But then again, maybe not. My parents have been married and really really are in love with each other still for over 50 years.

That was a bit funny (in a OMG, been there sort of way). I agree though. I have been sooooo on the same wave length with people via long term online communication in the past. I think I felt 'in love', but how could that be if I had never met the person. There was mental chemistry, but isn't physical chemistry a huge factor in falling in love?

I guess with progress and materialism...things and *people* have become *easily disposable* and unvalued. Love in itself is a choice and a committment to give to the other, not in materials...but in support and emotional safety. I guess it has become extremely rare. Wish your parents a long life and more love Imma... lucky people. :)

Because we are programed into believing that without it ...we do not succumed to the "society ideal" ie fall in "LOVE" have children etc etc ...the propaganda wheel of love...build the society ,or strengthen, as some will have it...with so much carnage world wide ..even next door neighbours ,destroy each other ...the love thing is one huge conglomerate of pretty pink wrapped present of faeces ...confused dunno

Hey friend, I hear what you are saying. Your opinion of love is different from mine perhaps, but all good. I was thinking more along the lines of what makes one person affect another in a way that one can feel butterflies, protective and just plain 'feel good' around another....regardless of societal expectations.

Understood..if everytime you meet...you wish too listen, rather than being heard...are able to convey your words ,without being interrupted ...experience silence ...not unaware of your partners presence...accepting the differences with a smile ...everytime you meet ... no our opinion of love is not different ...just the words we use to atteempt to describe it ...!

Ain't that the truth. When I started the thread, I started typing what I thought love is and I stopped because I started rambling. I can't define it adequately and yes, people use different ways to describe it, but we all know 'it'. Thanks Rizon. wine

Very interesting thread to read. So I will just read it, as it progresses.

Nah, I can`t resist saying something ... just a something.

Maybe there are many different types of love?
The problems only arise, when we marry someone and then things change ........ and then the Big War begins?

So ... fall in love.... enjoy it .. but don`t bind it to yourself with chains that cannot be broken. Oh there`s a song about that somewhere, isn`t there? I go to look for it on uTube, for later....

Aye, but therein lies the rub...change is inevitable. Physiologically the cells of different tissues in our body are in a constant state of change. Cells die, cells regenerate and replace themselves at different rates (well, except for within the brain's cortex generally)and so if our physical being, our physiology changes, that would make sense that the way we view things, perceive things, act, react may also change somewhat.

Ideally two people in love change in such a way together that things remain copasectic...otherwise, yes, the big war begins.

But too technical. What makes me Imma meet some dude out of a 1000 and think 'ya, he blows me away, I want to share my thoughts and my heart and my body with him' and what are the odds that this person thinks the same about me? If you really think about it, it is quite amazing. Maybe I should not question it and just accept that it happens. Would be cool to understand it though.

I'm not even speaking about how long a love may last for....eternity insh'allah, but how it can even be for 5 years.

Some feeling come and go, and some remain. I don’t know why and how, but there were, and still are, people in my life that made a great positive impact on my senses. Perhaps indeed we are “supposed” to be in love with some people, and not with the others. You really can’t rule your heart.
