Not sure of the cultural traditions in your country - maybe it's more acceptable for the man to be older than the woman when it comes to marriage
But anyway, if the girl you are speaking of has made her decision, it might be best for you to move on and try to find another girl, one who can see a future for you both together, even though it will be difficult for you to forget this girl.
Generally speaking, in the Western world, age matters little between two people as long as they are happy.

It can; as long as you have common interests and can accept the age difference, it can work.
I prefer to date slightly older to slightly younger, but if I found someone attractive who is more (but not too much) older or younger, I would likely give them a chance.
Women seem to be more accepting of older men, especially in interracial situations. Lots of beautiful young Asian women are with heavyset, older and over the hill Americans. It may seem gross to us but they obviously overcame the age difference and are together. That is not to single out any race or situation, just best example I can think of.
If he/she is worth it, go for it and see if love can overcome distance, age, race, religion, or whatever difference the two people have.

probably, if he wants kids she can't give him that if she hit the menopause. otherwise nobody knows for how long people are going to stay in a relationship no matter the age.
I so deeply don't believe in such a thing as "life partner".
it is probably possible with arranged marriages when the religion forbids divorce. people stayed together for other reasons than love before, but nowdays when love/ infatuation is gone people divorce and NOBODY is a life partner unless they MUST stay together for other reasons than love.

a man / a woman decision and free will and free choice. As wel I HAVE right to have my opinion, my attitude and my decision.
