curly28: I doubt that really , other vets there wouldn't allow that to happen and vets are in that field of work because of the love of animals I have dealt with horse vets for many years and have never met one that is cruel maybe inexperienced just starting out.

It's come right of the blue, but I know the signs and got him to the vet this morning.
It's tricky stuff and only 50% of dogs get a good result out of the initial surgery, a good result being 12 months without a re-occurence of the hernia.

Couldn't help thinking it might be something along the lines of what Faithe suggested, a difficult procedure being perceived as cruelty.
How could anyone involved with the RSPCA be responsible for animal cruelty, it doesn't make any sense
