I think respect is something to be earned but royalty expext people to bow, curtsey and pay taxes towards their upkeep just because they were born into a certain family. And most Royal families have a colourfull history to say the least so they would not be in the position they are without the odd murder here and there.
But each to their own and I know they create a lot of tourism revenue for the UK so maybe they pay their own way. Wouldn't be my cup of tea though!

Could it? Do rich people or Presidents have aides that follow them around especially to tell people how they must greet them? The queen in the UK has such people....they instruct women to curtsey and men to bow....and instruct you not to speak unless she speaks to you first. Talk about being trained and treated like a dog.
But as I said....I dont live there so its none of mu business. I just dont see the attraction myself.
