I'd only want to make it to 100 if I'm as healthy and relatively fit as I am now, which is unlikely confused

Another 20 odd years will probably do me, should have ticked everything off by then laugh

yep true you are....
my friend never thought she would live till a hundred too.....still doesnt believe it..
but

without her
i wouldnt have known all the stories about her generation for things werent the same then and some things are long gone and forgotten...
like
her father died under a horse and plow when she was 2...and the house her fathers father had given her parents when they got married wasnt put into parents name...so jessie mother..left a widow was ordered off the property with jessie who was 2..and her sister 5...because it was believed in those days that a single woman with kids would only attract lots of bad single men.....
so her mother took the kids to her auntie place 1800 miles away...
remember no cars......buses.......uni degrees
centerlink then or moral support
jessie mother became a housekeeper for people...fancy word for cleaner

in those days clothes washing done with copper and by hand...

no power where they lived.....so sweeping common.....no dyson vaccum cleanersdoh doh

Hi Eumundiewave

It's wonderful to hear how people survived in those days. no comparison at all with how we live now.

But its fascinating...

I work in Aged Care and I see a vast difference in people's health who are the same age.

And that is the main difference, if you are not in good health then it is a pretty miserable existence especially if you are in a lot of pain.

It is a wonderful story Eumundi of your lady being 100 yrs old but personally I have had a great life, travelled a lot, would like to travel more, maybe I will but I don't want to hang around to be a burden on my family.

I have always said 'All the money in the world can't buy you your health' - just look at Kerry Packer as an example??? So all you can do is hope for the best. Another 25 yrs and I think I will have had enogh. wave

I lived such a full on and full life in my youth that I believed I would be dead at fourty ..

Well that came and went and now at fifty two I wonder if I'll make seventy ..

To be honest I don’t think I'd like to live a hundred years, not with life as I know it ... We all know death never discriminates and it will arrive when its the end of our individual time, to claim us ... till then get on with it ...

I drink like a fish and smoke like a bushfire so I don’t end up lying in an old peoples home waiting to die!

I would rather go out with a drink in one hand smoke in the other saying man what a ride!

If you want to waste your life? just keep listening to the experts that are selling a book? Or you could just get a life and party too the end of time! Who said we have to live to someone else’s standards!

I say do as you want too do and have fun doing it, remember you don’t have to pay off your credit card if your dead?

To be honest i'm enjoying puffing away and have no intention of giving up, for a little while anyway.

I've decided also that drinking is ok as well. I don't want to blow my budget doing it all the time, but when I do it's fun.

Isn't that the purpose of being here, to enjoy life. Find things we enjoy. Breathing smog from the city is probably not healthy either, but I love living almost in the centre of it.

Well I have spent many years living and working in the country! I now live on the mortgage belt just ten minutes from work, so I have cut down my carbon foot print, not that it matters! Climate change happened long before cars were invented?

Have you ever worked on a sheep farm or a dairy farm?

Believe me the smell of smog is far more sweeter! Than endless flies and sheep and cow dung! Not to mention the occasional flyblown dead animal on the side of the road!

But to be fair, I have to drive past a few farms on the way to work and I live within 22kms from the city?

Lol, yes, Greenland is likely not called that for nothing. Was actually green at some point in the cycle. :D

Never worked on a farm but had friends with a cattle farm, they seemed to do things right as not many bad smells there. Though had the pleasure one day of driving past a small pig farm in the rural area north of Wanneroo. oh I so regretted having my window down, that smell hung in the car like something evil.

Why why why do people allow this to happen. I don't get it. Keeping animals cooped up in their own muck is just cruel.

Yeah, having rural areas just outside of suburbia are not great for sweet smelling air lol. Gosnells sounds like a southern version of Wanneroo, or vice versa.

Lovely that your friend is enjoying a long healthy life!

Who knows what comes into our bodies, that we don't purposely allow and may do damage in the future. But just doing what I want today, being happy again, is priceless. yay
