rohaan: Last Fall I became an overnight host for an abandoned cat. It was really going out on a limb, because we can't have cats or dogs where I live. She (I decided it was a female) was more kitten than cat, a gorgeous Persian. Obviously mistreated, she would not budge from my doorstep. (I admit I tried to shoo her away). She was so persistent, yet so mournfully friendly, I found that I couldn't "turn my head and pretend I didn't see". I took her in, rounded up some cat food, water, and bedding. She knew I was a friend, and tried to talk to me in cat language. In this county, we have several shelters, and I called one. The agreed to take her in, but asked if I could keep her for two days. I said yes. I would have adopted her if we could have them here. Since then I have become an advocate for these friends God has given mankind, and am making donations to a particular cat house. The people who manage it are absolute angels. Pets do not understand all of a sudden not being needed, or wanted. My message to anyone considering a pet of any kind is to take ample time to read up on them. Everything you can get your hands on. If you find the research boring, then you are not cut out to be that pet's owner. Period.

Very important message! And thanks for becoming a protector of CATSgrin handshake

EagleWoman: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I had a 1 month-ish kitten turn up on my door step beg of Dec. She´s siamese & was meowing at my open door but didn´t come in until I invited her in. The weirdest thing of all, I found out later, is that she´d been at my ex´s house for a few days after he found her abandoned but his 2 dogs were not being very welcoming to her so she took herself off and looked for yet another new home. The strange thing is that for a kitten my house is a fair way away from his!!! Anyhow, I realised after a couple of days that she was not well with cat flu and became quite ill. Found out since that kittens can die from cat flu, but she´s doing grand and is gorgeous

Talk about fate! Really weird! But Hey! A cat is happy now.

Enjoy each other company,guysteddybear

In response to: Dear Mom and Dad,

I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They
were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now.

Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't chewed your shoe? I didn't know
what it was, but it was leather, and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy toys.

Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose
in what I did only made me ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience teachers that would have taught you how to teach me to go to the door.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't brought fleas into the house?
Without anti-flea medicine, I couldn't get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't barked? I was only saying, "I'm
scared, I'm lonely, I'm here, I'm here! I want to be your best friend."

Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn't
make me learn how.

Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and
to teach manners to me? You didn't pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent all my time waiting for you to love me.

I died today.

Love,
Your Puppy

My friend sent it to me.... And since then my eyes are full of tears every time when it story comes back to my mind.

Just wanted to share!

I dont have a pet atm..

I did have a cat for 16 years.

I have 3 children and i dont have the time or finances for another family member..A pet needs to be given time devotion and love.

i dont believe in taking an animal into my life unless i can commit fully to it..and know later in life if i have more time i will enjoy their company again..right now it wouldnt be fair.

i just wish other people would consider the same..

Dear Dad,
You raised me from birth...with my black Bombay mom and 4 siblings...
I helped you through sad times and happy...troubles and triumphs...
I even helped you test all 90 feet of the Cat-walk that now adornes the house...
We all loved it, and thank you for your efforts...
even if it was just to save the furniture from being shredded!!
You fed us and brushed us and let us in from the rainstorms...eventhough we Knew we weren't supposed to go outside and risk cars and dogs and those nasty ticks!!
You didn't even get angry when I knocked-up that new kitten while I was waiting for my neutering surgery!
Thanks for letting me know what it's like to be a Dad!!
You found me in the basement, today...where I felt my life-force ebb away...not wanting to cause you any heartache, I found a nice, dark corner and went to sleep.
I hope that the vet can determine just what the cause was...and that it was something simple and non contagious, like a spider-bite...and that it doesn't affect any other member of the family...
If we can share one last thought, together,
let it be that we will _Always_ be in each others hearts...!!

With eternal Love . . . ~

~ Chitlin

crying I had dogs most of my life & that really made me cry - one reason I don;t have pets now is that I would not be able to care for them adequately .... this poem reminds me of the time my 8 yo daughter begged to rescue a kitten from the SPCA

I coulcdn't stand to see her cry so we went and searched for the cat - fouond it and she lived for more than 15 yrs with usteddybear

cryingChitlin sounded sounded like a wonderful friend and what a great letter that was. I know you were a fantastic dad and Chitlin had a very happy life.
I can't express how sorry I am for you. Last year I lost two cats that were both over 10 years old and I was devasted so I know you are too. You know how to reach me if you need a shoulder. Big hugs & kisses.
