The most common question asked on dating sites is "so - what are you looking for?" I know what I don't want but do any of us know what we really do want and are our expectations realistic?

Hi Wysterious, it's been a while but nice to see you back on the forums
Good question and I too know what I don't want but it's not as easy finding that one you do want but I have made some really good friends whilst in the process.
Even recently I dated a a guy a few times and great guy but I realise he's not the one that i am willing to settle down with which he was hoping for but I do know we have wonderful friendship gained meeting.
But I don't give up, and keep dating as I am sure I am going to meet him shortly, I just have a gut feeling......

oh yes - dont we all want that chemistry, the fireworks, marching band and orchestra - but that only happens in the movies - in real life it is more of a 'yep, this feels ok" thing

the first guy i ever went out with from internet dating - i chatted to for a long time before i ever actually saw a pic - we are still friends - but i never would have gone out with him if i had seen his pic first.
wysterious nice to see ya back again, think thats the problem people dont actually no what they want these days, there constantly pushing the posts further apart making it more and more impossible to meet there "perfect" match,i had a really intense relationship in adelaide where everything was good the chemistry was there on both sides . turned out a few months later i found out she was still married , but i know the feelings i had for her would be the ones i would want with anyone i partenered up with now ,but do u get that a second time round ?? id never experienced the feelings i had for her in my marriage or with my second partener of 16 yrs, or anyone has ever come close since ,so was that my last and only chance of having those feelings again who knows ??

I know eXactly what I want and I don't believe I have any real eXpectations of another ...
Love, commitment, warmth, tenderness and commitment along with understanding, support and loyalty are what I am bringing to a future relationship ... so I am seeking a keeper .. and wont settle till she's part of my world ...

Thanks - I missed all you old regulars!!! I think we sometimes experience those special feelings so that we keep hoping that we will find it again. I know i live in hope that i will - i have had a few times where i have thought "oh wow' I want to be eternally optimistic - there has to be that one person there for us.

Thats right Wysteria. Its impossible to say what you want. We have vague ideas and impressions of what we think we want.
But I'm sure we have all experienced that time when what we thought we didn't want actually suited us down to the ground.
I have set myself the standard that i don't want a BBW nor do I want a gregarious outgoing woman. But at the same time i set those guidelines I ask myself over and over again am i shutting out my perfect match. After all; All I really want is someone to accept me and love me back.
Writing something in stone is one sure way of setting yourself up for egg in the face.
