February 6th. is the day that the Queen acceded to the British throne after the sad demise of her Father.

In my opinion this lady, for 60 years, has done a remarkable job under sometimes extenuating circumstances, and has been a credit to us all.

A great ambassador visiting the Commonwealth and keeping in touch with her people. Still doing a sterling job in her 80's.

I guess all the cynics will have something to say, but today I am proud of my Queen and country.cheering

I'm sure it's a more demanding role than many would suspect. And despite the public scandal sometimes attached to her descendants, Elizabeth has never been less than a lady herself. My hat's off to your Queen.

Thanks Dagostahandshake

People have a habit of looking at the smaller picture and not taking into consideration the strain of such a formidable position.

Well when you look around the World at the moment and see just what some of those elected heads of states are doing to their own people, thank God we have a Sovereign.laugh

Some of the elected ones, yes, they become dictators suppressing, exploiting, stealing from their own country treasury. But how come, when the people depose them, democratically in referemdums, they live comfortably without work for decades on.???Obviously during their reign, their hand was deep in their country's treasury, and prime example is ex King Kostantine of Greece and his family, unemployed for 45 years, but he lives like a King.-

Just guessing you would prefer something like the French revolution where tens of thousands died and then allowed a dictator like Napoleon to cause the deaths of five million?

Nice and quiet abdication of formal powers is always better.

I guess that you do have an axe to grind in the case of your own country, but having said that your elected government certainly hasn't got a good track record either, and are struggling with huge deficits that the rest of Europe are expected to help out with, including the U.K., so enough said!

As one of the richest women in the World our Queen elects to pay her own way as she will do for the celebrations in June for her Jubilee. She does not expect her people to pay for everything, whatever you may think.

I am against anyone inheriting positions, they should be earned by merit only. Nothing against the individual but she did not get interviewed on open competition for the job.

And how exactly did she become the richest woman in the world?

The present or past Greek governments has nothing to do with the topic.Obviously they did not governed wisely, and the state we are in, is prove of that. The Queen is known worldwide,as a well known Scrooge,so she will pay with one hand, for the public eyes, and receive with the other, from the treasury.

I only wish she was more of a power and influence. A check against those criminals we have in government and finance. History made a big mistake by sidelining the Monarchy and landed nobility to the extent in which it did.
