I've had some really good times in the U.S and made some really good friends? 95% of the folks I ran into there were either considerate and polite or minded their own business. From the Windy City to the Gulf of Mexico and from L.A to New York, I have met lots of decent people who would give you the shirt off their back. Of course, as in every place, you get the other kind, the kind that don't even acknowledge you exist.
But a lot of them aren't full of themselves, you're generalizing and you can't put the decisions of their government on their backs either just like you can't put other people's government decisions on theirs.
That's just my opinion.

yes....some individual americans can be 'full of themsevles' but many many more ameircans individually are very warm, normal and common folks like us. And if some americans are 'full of themselves', they are so NOT because they are americans but because of their 'individual' characteristics.

How can World peace stand any chance when people divide the world with their propaganda.
Syrians killing their own people ,because they choose freedom from a dictatorship.
So much for healing the World when people live in the past and rake up old history.They complain about the Commonwealth but I notice that they are happy to live under it's flag. Hypocrites or what.

Obviously you've never been here, or ever met "real" Americans. You're judging a whole country by what you hear and see on TV and a few tourists you may have met. You may want to redirect your fear of being "overrun" by Americans to being overrun by Chinese.Have a nice day.

my experience as well. lived in the states for four years off and on, and i loved it. (but bigger love for canada...grin)
life is what ya make it....take what you want and leave the rest..
i'm not comfortable with generalizing a whole country...
try giving it another chance before you slam that part of your mind shut. you might surprise yourself...in a good way. (grin)

I have traveled to many countries throughout my life and have lived abroad. I can honestly say, I have never felt judged or uncomfortable. I always have wonderful experiences, make new friends, absorb all the differences and sights, and tastes, and sounds. And am usually sad to leave. Totally agree, All this stereotyping about any nationality is often based on political events that are aired through the media , rather than being based on individual people. Every country has people that are either decent or on the other side of the fence leaning toward evil. Lets not generalize
