What could you get away with in living cost in your country?
Where I live, the average apartment 65m2 is about 1k Euro, but can go up to double if one add a bit of size and triple if you add flavor of the month standard.
Gasoline is about 2 euro/ liter, a dinner out is about 20-30 euro (depending on what you eat of course, fast food is about 10 euro for a burger), my personal food budget is about 100 euro/ week (could live cheaper if I made more myself), a .5 liter coca cola is 2.5 euro if i remember correctly, a heineken .33 is 4 euro, a pack of 20 cigarettes (for those who smoke) is about 12 euro. 1 liter milk is about 2 euro and a piece of bread is 3 euro.
Well lets see a euro is equal to 1.45 Canadian according to converter..so just by some of your examples ie..milk and things we pay considerably less...
Smokes - at 12 erous is just over $17 CAD when we pay $10 , milk we pay average of $5 CAD for 4 litres at your price is $11.60 CAD..
Question how can people survive...the wages must be high??
My rent is $640/month hydro included which would roughly be 440 euros.

Everything is free here except dentist if you're over 20 years old. You pay a fee of 30 euro at the doctor, but its the same at the hospital no matter what you do there, police, fire department, social services etc

Good to learn something new...
Here doctors are included in health care fee...but we pay for dentists unless like me you have insurance then you only pay 20% of bill.

I can spend less for food if I need to be careful with money and I don't have to starve, but you have to be smart, you can eat cheap or expensive, I real swedish forums, there are people who earn a lot but spend it stupidly and the money is never enough no matter how much they earn. They even have a TV show(lyxfällan) about people who are incredibly stupid with money, some people don't have to spend as much as they do.

Doctors and workers included here as well - I saw this movie by Michael Moore on health care where he went to Canada, looks pretty similar to the Norwegian system.

So true about the way people spend...I tend to go to our Farmers Market as you get meat, cheese, fish, bread, eggs, desserts, fruits and veg. for very good prices and supports local farmers...have to go to regular stores for all other items..
