robplum: Yes to equality but mean while in the real world

Five Tibetan women, three nuns and two laywomen, have died in recent months in fiery protests.

On Sunday a widowed mother of four is thought to have died after setting herself on fire in the same town. Another teenager - a girl reported to be aged between 16 and 19 - set herself alight on Saturday

Newlife08: I think it is not so much a celebration of equality with men, as lets face it in a lot of areas we haven't, but more a celebration of how far we have come?

Even such things as Women gaining the vote all those years ago, a right to a University Education, Maternity Leave/Pay, the first Female Prime Minister, not having to give up your job if you worked in the Public Service when you married (Yes! it did happen).

They are all small steps, but huge achievements for women? And so it must continue .......

From Emily Pankhurst chaining herself to a railing to protest and allow women to vote we have made huge changes??

But lets not forget allot of mothers yonks ago prevented their daughters from entering a workforce or getting educated. In the olden days women believed they had a very important job being a home maker a backbone to family structure. Sometimes I wonder confused

Yes in some sectors we have come a long way, work wise,Ect
In the ones that really matter have we advanced that far ahead.
Money raised through this day,how much stays in Australia to help the women here.
I am guessing it will go to Africa,Asia and the islands to the north of us.
As for our p.m being where she is and a women, did she work for the position or was it handed to her, well we all know the answer to that.has she done a good job,no

I would like to see male and female treated equally
. Then it would be real equality
