smoky: Ja, I understand what you`re saying ..... but ..... (excuse me, I always got a "but" to add) ....
They may be great cooks, but .. and here is the But ....WHAT do they cook? That is the burning question of the moment.
My D.i.L is also a great cook, most of what she cooks comes out of supermarkets .... packets, cans, boxes, frozen, freeze-dried - quick cooking?
Farmers wife up the road .... grows her own veges and fruits, bottles in summer ..... makes own pastries .... not a packet of instant stuff to be found in her kitchen - stocks and gravies made from scratch. Long drawn out soups made from cheap meat cuts. That sort of thing, where the woman has all day to attend to the home. Mending clothes. Cleaning. Laundry, etc.
I`m just playing Devils Advocate here, for the moment ..... interesting discussion.

What do we cook.
Mostly home made meals from scratch but I have to admit that sometimes –not often- we all have gotten some already prepared foods. Here there are many places to get good and great food Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc.
What I see is that many women; they are successful career women and still manage to keep a home going, with a good family. With some problems, yes but as long as the family is a project for every one, problems can be solved.
Women staying home, does not guarantee that all the house’s chores are going to be taken care of. Some women - whom do not work outside home- , spend their time watching tv and eating on the coach and doing nothing with their life.
A good balance between family attention, work, house'schores, personal care, etc... would give a better quality of life for a woman and the persons she cares for, the persons she loves.

Yes, the home keeps going, keeps "functioning". Great take-aways does not mean health. I suppose I`m just too old fashioned to have this type of discussion. Because I realy do not see how going out of the home to "earn a living" competes with staying at home for a better quality home life - and have someone else get up early and spend 9 hours working for a stranger, to bring home money - can compete with actual quality of life. But things have changed, I do agree.
No-one can trust the other to do their share anymore. So women have to go out to work and earn their own money. Just in case faithful old hubby decides to trade them in for a younger newer model...?
Sad, but true. Now, as someone said on another thread here, just shut up and consume.

In fact I am more into the minimalist way of living. Although, I just have bought a new camera –after 4 or 5 yr with my oldie one from the cereal box -.

But .... later on in life, one learns these mistakes, and goes on to improve her lot in life, but sometimes only the great grandchildren will learn by her mistakes.....?
