i haven't been there, so i'm not much help on street food. but as a general rule..i really limit how much street food i eat while traveling depending on where i am.. it's always a bit of a crap shoot... (perhaps not the best choice of words...but leaving it in anyways..lol) i also tend to drink a lot of bottled water...and make sure it really is bottled water.. i used to watch the boys fill up bottles with a hose behind a shed and recap them in thamel...and then sell 'em to tourists. so then i started making sure there was a real seal pop when i opened bottled water.
sorry i'm not more help...
but have an awesome time Rock!!!! how long will you be there for?

It's for work, i'm heading out to a mine site about 3 hours east of Jakarta. It should take about a week. (or two )
In response to: I've never been there... going in a few weeks!
Anyone been there?
I'd like to hear your comments!
In a word: no! Stick to the hotels, the nice restaurants and franchise chains such as McDonalds. Avoid street vendors like the plague (literally and figuratively).

Sterling_Wollops: Just relax, get to know the locals (very well) enjoy yourself. Step out of your western shoes, leave your life at home
Yess Rocksmith... What SW said would be the best strategy..! Last year, a friend of mine, an american, visited me. At first he was so worried as there was a trial for Baasyir. He thought indonesian muslims would do harm to him because of his skin color. So I told him similar to what SW advised you. And you know what happened. He really enjoyed his two week stays here... with me..
Anyway, welcome to Indonesia .. enjoy your stays ! Wish I can meet you ..
