I used to reply to people if I wasn't interested, but after the pattern became insulting to my kind, polite reply wishing them well, it's now not worth the effort.

I can see your point. And it's a fair one. It's not that I don't ever NOT respond--and I had this cling- on that was hard to discourage, but finally it sunk in to the idiot.
