heartofgold34: Christians are no second class citizens and we have fought over religious beliefs for years, that's what makes the US a free nation.

Can i ask you a question with no malice intended.
When after a speech from your president saying we are now at war with who ever he says God bless America. Always baffled me that one.

I want you to think about this very carefully--Christians celebrate a universal conviction that with a sincere belief in God comes Free Will, which comes from God, so is therefore one of his gifts. Would God give us a wonderful gift (Free Will) but make it conditional that we not use it? Doesn't that sound a little daffy, now? Let him who hath ears heareth. (FYI--there are scads and scads of examples like this. Christians attempt to collar God and make profound statements about what He can and cannot do. Piffle and stuff.....He's not bound by anybody's idea of what He ought and ought not to do.

It is the irony of religion that makes it questionable. ("I love you, but you'll burn in hell if you don't agree with everything I say"). Kapiche?

We don't need religion to teach us morals.
We have brains, and laws for those that don't.

I'm not so sure on this one.I do beleive we need need some sort of entity that at least attempts to provide an unquestionable take on morality, belief in god does that,after-all large groups of people living together can only work if theres pretty much universal acceptance of law,if that acceptance stems from the fact that the laws based on directives from the divine and sacred,is it more likely to be adhered too?

Of course one could also say aspects of religion provide perfect fodder for a great scam but either way,one thing for sure is if your down on your luck and homeless or whatever,it's very likely it'll be
an affiliate of some religious order that gives you some food.

To be connected with the divine and sacred one does not need religion. Spiritual awakening and religion are most of the time not synonymous. In fact, they are very often a contradiction in terms.
IMO there can only be one spiritual & divine truth at soul level. Soul knows no ego. Any religion that professes to "hold the truth" and in so doing attempts to control in any way shape or form, by wanting to be "the ones who know the truth", has lost its touch with the spiritual & divine truth that they proclaim to embody.

Nobody likes to suffer. If people had access to a tool of spiritual awakening which would mean the end of internal suffering, they would loose the fear. The fear is what prompts people to want to be the strongest, the best, the rischest, the leader, the one who does the hurting another. Without the fear there´s no need for competition. Without need for competition there´s no feeling inferior or superior. Out goes the need for laws to regulate competition. What´s left is just "being" at one with all and everything.
