Witchaywoman: What kind of occult books do you read? I like most of them, all kinds.

Nearly all books on the occult are sprinkled liberally with BS, or are straight out works of fiction.
There are a few reasons for this.
One is that the founder of modern Wicca, Gerald Gardner, did not complete his education in witchcraft. He was expelled because he could not keep his mouth shut. To fill in the blanks when he wrote his books Gardner made stuff up. Sad, but true.
Some people who have written books do know that they are talking about, but the information is always incomplete, or there is just enough error to prevent someone who is not an initiated and educated occultist doing anything that would work.
The reason is that occult forces are real . . . very real . . . and if the muggles (love that word invented for the Harry Potter books) got hold of the knowledge there could be havoc. It would be like giving an infant a loaded pistol with which to play.
An experienced occultist can recognise the error instantly and either correct it or fill in the blanks because metaphysics, just like Newtonian physics, has laws.
The book that is generally considered to be the best basic work on the occult is called Mastering Witchcraft. It is available on Amazon. See below.

No, I never heard about Nikki Sixx and Lita Ford at the fork in the ceiling but next time don't take all the pills at once. Hee hee. I like anything about Pagans, Atheist and skeptic stuff, and short witch stories.

Read: When Santa was a Shaman by Tony van Renterghem , How to be a Wicked Witch by Patricia Telesco, 100 Wicked Witch stories, Witches of Eastwick by John Updike, The Witching Hour by Ann Rice, all kinds of stuff about Salem Witch Trials, stuff about Archaeologhy that pertains to Paganism, Haunted Castle books (They show you the inside of castles), all kinds of stuff about the paranormal, Arthurian legend and stuff like that.

When I was a kid I was a rabid reader of Daniel Cohen. He had all kinds of paranormal books out for youngsters. Kis books explain the belief system sort of depicted in Ghostbusters, if I remember rightly.

@ Carl I like Wiccans because they are for the environment and Wiccanism can subvert people away from other more damaging religions. I also love their stuff. My favorite religion is probably just old English or European Paganism. My dad was heavily into Buddhism for a while. Gorge Harrison sparked that trend and then it opened te floodgates and that was about the time my dad started liking that stuff. He still has Buddhas all over his room. I like their philosophies but I don't automatically believe every word they say.
I'm also way into secret societies, COS, and all that subversive stuff. Always wanted to have a party like in the movie Eyes Wide Shut. Goats head stew all the way baby!

I mostly find that stuff by randon Googling. Anything about Viking burials or Druid burials is interesting.

I was in a 'obby'oss parade in the renaissance faire a long time ago. My guilde did all the pagan stuff and every saturday night we burned up a live patron inside a giant wicker dummy. Haha. Well we could have. the faire had enough patrons back then.
