Phoenix: I'm in the thinking stage...I've tried most things to get me to stop from trying to go cold turkey, hypno..shock videos don't work, will power is in short supply.
I've am serious any ideas short of cutting my fingers off or gluing my mouth..

Rockabilly it ain't like that. It's like learning to play guitar. The only way you can do it is by picking up the guitar and strumming. The only way you can quit smoking is by quitting smoking, no tricks or shortcuts.

Now I know why I can't stop smoking... I never learned how to play the guitar.
To get pregnant made me once stop smoking immediately. But this is maybe not helpful.
A friend of mine is trying to stop it step by step. Whenever he wants to smoke, he drinks water and takes a chewing gum, and he says he´s on a good way.

Bental, goto your local charity shop and pick one up for 30/40 euro (you'd piss more on a good good weekend) and try. All you need is 3 chords and you can play 100's of songs..add another an you'll be able to play 1000's.

Smokin' may also kill me..but so far as I'm aware there haven't been any complaints yet. But I'll bear it in mind Bental.

How about this then:
Don't try to suddenly stop smoking. Think about it long and hard. Draw up a list about why you wish to stop the filthy habit. Find out what triggers the urge to smoke, like drinking coffee or just getting in the car. Hype up yourself and then decide to do it. Change your habits like have a fruit juice instead of coffee. Take up an exercise routine like walking and lightweights. Check your list often and regularly.
Don't loose heart if you have an occasional smoke, just restart and keep up the good work.

Bental....I wake up in the middle of the night to have a smoke. I'm onfairly fit. I think I once went 3 days without smokin'. But I mentioned earlier in the thread I'll stop at 6am this morning. I'll make it until 7am..Play it hour by hour. All I konw is I gotta stop.

Books, doctors advice etc... Well they go out my right ear before they enter my left.
I need something to help me cut the mustard.

Your daily mantra..'I am a non-smoker...'
You said you once had no ciggys for 3 days.(The list of 1000+ toxic ingredients such as rocket fuel, glue, toilet cleaner, arsenic...will also soon leave your system. I think cloves might be about the only non-toxic item!) Well done. That's how long it takes for nicotine, 3 days, to leave your system. After that, it's pure habit, no longer chemical addiction.
What helps for you to take control is that each time you think of turning to a cigarette, turn your focus and attention to doing something positive and constructive, such as having a drink of water, calling a friend, going for a walk, even just taking a few slow deep breaths....Set up your environment as a non-smoker, get rid of ashtrays, make it hard to get to your ciggys...you know the drill.

Just keep doing exactly what you're doing. Keep on stopping to smoke every seconds, every minutes, every day of your life
I also second SpiderMoose's opinion re: book from Allen Carr "Easy way to stop smoking" can help you to understand the brainwashing behind tobacco industry thus make it easier to overcome it and Bental opinion's as well on the occasional smoke, just re-stop and keep on doing so until it works
