There are different opinions on preppers. Some think of them as Tinfoil hat wearing nuts, while others think of them as practical realist?

What are your opinions on these people?

Wonder if they're anything like "preppies", the ones that wore boat shoes, collared pink shirts, and had "Flock of Seagulls" hairdos.troll laugh

Lol! Funny guy.

Preppers are people who prepare for natural or manmade disasters. They typically store food and necessities that will last them for around a year. Some are more extreme and also store as many guns as they are allowed with a great deal of ammunition.

I tend to agree. While I think the doomsday preppers are taking things way to far, we also have to remember that disasters, both global and local have been going on,are going on,and will go one until the end of this planet.

A human can live for how long without water? a week? How long without food? There's no harm in stocking up on some things. We had problems with out well here for three days here not long ago. You would not believe how much water we had to go out and buy just for drinking mind you.

I have to agree, haveing food and water to last for a week or two isn't a bad idea, but for a year ? I think if the disaster is that bad, you won't be needing it. I also don't believe this planet will end. Maybe the way it's being run will, but the planet will always be here. JMO

Ahhh I see said the blind chick cool Ive always regarded them as somewhat fanatical Its nothing I take very seriously. Im not the sort that goes through life worrying about "what if".

It seems to me that, since the beginning of time, peeps have always predicted the end of it. Kinda too Chicken Little for me...Id rather go through this life enjoying and being grateful for the gift. wine

Yeah Jeeepers, a week or two is one thing, but a year or more with stuff not having much more of a shelf life than that is nuts. And I figure if it gets that bad, I'll throw the saddle on my horse and live off the land.

If stored properly some things can last much longer then their expiration dates.

If things get that bad, there will be gangs of people roaming around taking anything they can find. It's better to be moving and head for the high country till it settles out and you can't do that hauling a lot of stuff with you. Some basic neccessities like a good rifle with enough ammo, a good tent and some basic tools are about it. even with a horse to carry it. they can only carry so much.bouquet

Doomsday preppers are not preparing for the end of the planet. Obviously that would be pointless. No planet to live on means everyone and everything dies. They are preparing for a devastating event on a global scale. Even when meteors struck this planet and the dinosaurs were killed, many animals still survived.

I guess that's why the most extreme have stockpiled guns and ammo. It's rather interesting to watch these people. Some have underground bunkers and everything!

I've heard of them. You can only use one weapon at a time, so having a lot of them don't pay. Saying that, I have 11 rifles and shotguns. All different for different uses. I also have reloading equipment for most of them. Ammo is way too expensive to buy factory ammo if you can help it. I'm positive I could live off the land for a very extended period if I had too. I've been hunting and camping all my life. And I know how.
