I am a research student and my main topic of study is MODERN DAY RELATIONSHIPS. One of the recent findings, that I have come through in my research work on the role of LOVE in MODERN DAY RELATIONSHIPS have been quite interesting.
The definition of Love is relative and varies from person to person.
If by "true love" you mean "unconditional love" than it exists but it is rare. All of us know Diamond, pearls and other alluring jewels exist on planet EARTH but everybody is not fortunate to have it in this world.
Rest of the relationships contain element of love but that is conditional. Relationships work if some one NEEDS you and vice versa.
The list of NEEDS is long: including financial support, social security, emotional reliance, physical attraction, so on and so forth.
When people say that they are looking for true love, they generally mean that they are looking for perfect, young-looking, vibrant, charming SUGAR MOM or SUGAR DAD !!!
Therefore, We need to be sure first and define love (at least to ourselves) to get a clear vision of the kind of love we are looking for.

Too many choices and the idea that anything less than the perfect solution is "settling", this combined with the slacker's culture of selfishness and misinformation which engenders decadence, laziness and stagnation - e.g. "women only want money" or "beauty is in the eye of the beholder/he should love me as I am" - which means that most people are far more imperfect than they could be.

hi OP, I think it can be hard but then when we meet the person that is for us then we just know........call it a connection, chemistry, just two people drawn together, just a major knowing feeling

It is difficult to find true love in this planet because, human beings living on this planet are not truthful to themselves, and their love is full of selfish and material gains. Simply said, human beings have not the ability to love truly. This is added to selfish and devilish cultures that are anti-love among many human societies. HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT MATURED AND NO WHERE NEAR PERFECTION TO TRUE LOVE. Just look around you and see how the few who proclaim undying love to their husband/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends are reacting in any simple challenging situation.
Therefor, when you meet someone you love, just love this person truly on your own and do not expect her to even love you as you love her, because she has not the ability for true love:
