Just out of Melbourne with an apple orchard that has over 50 different varieties and continually looking for more. The sizes range from plum to rockmelon, and all different colours. Never been there but saw it on ABC a couple of years ago.
And 'corn' is another one fast disappearing food. Over 100 different types have been identified but we see only the one type normally, although the multicoloured one seems to appear in some specialty shops.
Landline recently had stuff on potatoes. We all like our white fluffy centres (grew up on Robertson potatoes) but having had the yellow variety from SA recently, I'll go for the flavour. And costs the same.
They are even trying to commercialise the purple potato. Not sure about that, looks a bit odd. Then again, we now have purple carrots on the market. But they go orange if you boil them.
I agree but the key words here are “ doomsday vault”
